Question: Can I ask what the rationale was behind removing them in 5.1? Personally, I would rather have the support group than the cadre, as if I want to take 4 Ion cannon tanks I now can't....

Well, I can assure you that it did not come down to a flip of a coin.

After absorbing the peer review material, the decision was made to remove one of the HH cadre options. The support was removed because it presented the lowest risk to the list.

Although the core choice could have been removed just as easily, there are also consequences associated with potentially needing to evaluate the HH costs as they would now come with a premium of either FWs or Crisis.

As we were on a fairly tight deadline and evidence has not been presented yet that as a core choice, an imbalance exists, we went with leaving the core and not penalizing the gravheads.

Did you consider the compromise position of having a formation of 5x HHeads for 325, and allowing single HH upgrades?

This really follows on from Neal's comments about the expense of certain upgrades and my thoughts on the 'popcorn' list.

Would it even be a consideration of having the AMHC be a base of four Hammerheads for 250 points, so then it can be upgraded to the usual six for the same cost as it is now?

That way people with "four-strong" formations of Ionheads, or what-have-you, still have a playable formation... and doesn't penalize "gravheads" either.

Chroma, I am less sure about this option, given the 'popcorn' potential and the way the list leans towards long-range fire-power (which was part of the reasoning behind 5x HH rather than 4x).

Well, that Tau list will *always* lean towards long-ranged fire power...

And the "4-strong" AMHC could always be 275 if that's really a concern.  And the Tau always have "popcorn potential"...

To me, starting at a base of four units seems an answer to the people who want all tanks *and* the people who would like a smaller Hammerhead formation... imagine that, two *different* groups of Tau players happy at the same time!  *LAUGH*

Not to be a ninny but isn't this all Off-Topic for this thread?  There is a discussion thread out there and I think these are all good points, they just belong not-here.  Dropping a bunch of comments on the list here just makes it that much more likely that the real editing problems will be missed by CS and Honda and not make it onto 5.1.  Then we'll have 5.1.1.13.4.5.5.6.6 again which is really annoying.

Point taken and a new thread started about a smaller AMHC base formation.

There is now.   I was using my tachyon forum detector to read the existence of a future thread.  Oh, and it turns out that I am right about everything in case any of you are wondering.

The comment period for technical edits is closed. Recommended changes will be migrated to the final version.

Consider the list frozen.
