Tonight Hena's Orks faced the Elysians - mistakes aplenty were made, and many died... here is their story - many details are glossed over, but the pics should be worth way more than my words.

Everything started quite normal, with the Orks deploying 2 big gunmobs and 2 blitz brigades with oddboys, a big kult of speed, and a stompamob with a supa stompa!
The Elysian forces... waited. There were 7 Drop Companies (1 the supreme commander) and 12(!) drop sentinel squads ready for entry - but it was still too early for them.

Two predictably quick turns later, the Orks controlled that patch of ground...

when the Elysians, fashionably late, showed up!

And the real fun begun...
there are 5 activations of shooting, failing to break anything but placing bms, both sides activating aggressively the formation near the opposite blitz... until the kult of speed engaged (and easily destroyed a drop company)! Hena retained, failing a marshal and removing bms from a big gun formation on the verge of breaking!

Then the blitz brigade engages! an other drop company falls, soon followed by a sentinel squad, broken by fighta boomas.
Some more shooting of little consequence from the Elysians, and the warboss engages the drop troopers in the right corner... it's a wipe-out!

I need someone to contest the blitz - that's worth 2 objectives, right there!
Hena made a slight mistake - there was space for a unit to contest! some sentinels nearby approach... but I see his mistake and rise it! The sentinel stop their move short... and find themselves out of range to contest.

A couple of easy assaults on the big guns follow, gaining me take and hold, but the blitz brigade moved out of position to be assaulted, and stop me from taking the blitz!

The dust settles after some more shooting, breaking an other small sentinel formation that could have contested something... and nothing stops the Orks from the blitz objective.
The day is theirs. At least they didn't get the (uncomfortably easy) break their spirit!

It was messy - very.
I'd like to think I've learned something from this game - but only the next encounter will confirm that!

Intruiging report guys, and thanks for testing the "teleporting popcorn" Elysian list.

Could I check a few points on the strategy and tactics?
1) Why did the Elysians wait for turn #3 to arrive 'fashionably late'?

2) How much did the Elysians use their Commanders for combined assaults?

Good batrep.  Thanks!  I probably would not have waited for turn 3...  Turn 2 is a clever delay.  Turn 3 is risky!

Hena, that wasn't even the worst mistake - I still believe the waltzing around my blitz cost me the game (or at least didn't exploit an hole in your offense... and some activations later I forgot the sentinels were out of position!)

I thought the whole army would go 'pop', as the name implies, if I tried to hold the ground for 2 turns, so I swooped in only at the very last moment... I don't really belive anything (but the supreme commander) of mine would be alive in my table half if we played an other turn, but given my track record with such estimations, I'd better just play the list again and see what happens!

For the commander, I choose not to have my formations intermingled (and multiply the firepower of the sentinels with supporting fire).
Using it would have given me more resilience in the face of overwatches, next time I'll take care to assault overwatching formations with 2 drop companies - something should be still alive once the slaughter ends, for the sentinels to support

Thanks for the de-briefing! :)

Can I ask what mapping program was used to create those pics?  And where can I find it?

They were made using the VASSAL engine, and online gaming application:

And the game was played using Vassal, those screenies can be made anytime clicking a large button on the interface.

Vassal is more or less ideal for playtesting purposes as it is really easy to do "odd" army builts, like hordes of Sentinels, without needing any minis at all. Plus, you can fight opponents a continent away, save at any time, pick up at any point, reload at that point in Turn 2 when you failed that activation or made that stupid move which, in hindsight, lost you the game.

Hopefully, the next version will include more armies, I´ve already pushed for making Tau, Dark Eldar Necrons and Tyranids a priority to facilitate playtesting.
