The Space Hulk release is true, yet the things Cybershadow speaks of is true horror.

To stop this box eating into current sales of figures, this is rumoured to be pre-painted (unlikely) and/or at a different scale (15mm? More likely).

15mm would be beyond awesome.

I tend to think it'd be truly goofy to release Space Hulk at 15mm or 10mm scale (though that'd give some nice broodlords for epic).  At least with 28mms they have considerable market share.  To be sure, they wouldn't compete against themselves, but they'd be moving into a segment of the market where there are already some established (if small) players.

I suppose it's revealing that GW is more afraid of channel conflicts than of generating business for the competition.

There is precedent for this view. When 2nd edition SH was out, my nephew worked part time at a GW store. The staff was pushing SH as a great way for 40k players to get a lot of Termies and Stealers dirt cheap compared to buying them in blisters. His store was among the leaders in the US for SH sales. Upper management told them to stop doing that.

Even though I don't play 40k, I would rather SH stayed at that scale. Although, having it at a smaller scale would mean you could play it on a smaller table.

Theres also the possibility that it could be a kind of supplement for 40k:

- There isn't a box set released per se but a book of rules and scenarios instead
- Plastic terrain and counters are relased as a seperate pack for use with the game
- you buy standard 40k boxes for the terminators and genestealers

Rules could also be expanded to include an ork/chaos infested spacehulk or eldar/tau clearing out a spacehulk...

This was my thought also, and I would be perfectly okay with this.  The terrain itself would be fantastic, if it were detailed plastic at a reasonable price.  I figure that it shouldn't be too hard, because Tehnolog, a backwoods Ukranian company, was able to release and sustain the Hexagon/Platformer sets for a reasonable price, and GW can certainly do as well or better.  Of course, there is the tacked-on charge that you pay to support the Thomas H. F. Kirby Wildlife Fund, but still...

Not from any of the sources I have talked to.

And no-one has mentioned prepaints or smaller scale figures either.

I can't see that GW would do anything other than a 28mm scale figure

Of course that was probably at a point when Rackham and Privateer had a much smaller share of the skirmish game market.

Especially with the economy doing so poorly, it seems important to be able to offer a complete, flavorful game system to bring new people through the door.
