Until the Marine player teleports a Terminator formation into the heart of your Artillery and it disappears!  

In brief, Epic games are best set up with balanced forces. If you take all vehicles then you will have trouble keeping objectives. If you take all infantry you will have trouble capturing objectives. If you dont take AA support your troops will vanish from air strikes. All war engines look great, but you will have a few high-points-cost formations, and that means that your opponent will out-activate you (moving his cheap formations to force you to then take an activation so he can see where you are going).

As a general rule, around 3-4 formations per 1000 points makes a good guide.

The Chaos stuff came at the twilight of Epic (again). So, the plastic troops were released and the GW-thinking was that Imperial units could be used for Chaos in most cases.

If you will not be playing official GW tournaments then there are several alternative minis for the more obscure units.

I dont want to drown you with links, but some boards here that may of particular interest are:

Chaos Development - This is where the chaos lists are generally discussed and changes are made to the official forces.

Epic Minis - There are several threads with inspirational models and pictures here. This includes a few Chaos forces. Try the search feature, just looking for 'chaos' in the thread titles.

Battle Reports - These can be very useful to see what kind of forces other people are using, and how well they work. Be a little careful, as some reports use earlier versions of the force lists, but they are still great for wasting an hour or two!

I hope that this helps. I am sure that there are several people here far more qualified to give advice on Chaos than I am.

Actually, I'd LOVE to play Tau, but before I sink a bunch of loot into an entire FW force I'm going to bolster my existing Epic: Space Marine era stuff and try to stoke some more interest.

But I DO keep coming back to that page . . .

Welcome to the forums.  There are people out here who are vastly better prepared to give you the ins and outs of each army list, but what I can do is give you an idea as to what we in the fan base are up to.

First off is a fella who goes by Evil & Chaos who published a great article on Epic in Warseer.  If you want some reading material that breaks down Epic fairly well, this is it.

He also wrote the first fan made Epic supplement that covers the Death Korp or Krieg.

It is in the final stages and if all goes well he'll have it ready for printing soon.

If you look at the link in my signature you will find the second fan made Epic supplement that features the Necron, Dark Eldar, and Imperial Guard Minervan Legion.  It is a collaborative effort of over fifty people and the feedback on the supplement and the printed books themselves have been extremely positive.

Other fan made supplements are in the works as well: Black Crusade, Xenos, and more.  

These efforts came about as GW support for Epic began to wane.  But I like to think that these are all positive things as we are keeping the torch lit while GW goes through its tough times.  I had a chance to speak with Jervis Johnson at length and he told me flat out that the miniatures for Epic are going to continue to be sold and he would like to see more support for Epic in the future.  It's all a matter of waiting as I see it. While we wait, we have accomplished some great things and I see even better things for the future.

Are those JR Miniatures rivers the flexible rubber ones, or are they fairly rigid?  I've been looking for some rivers, and found the Pegasus ones, but they are rigid plastic which for some reason puts me off.

Yes, they are flexible rubber. I love 'em. All of the rivers, regardless of scale, are fine for Epic. The 15mm ones are relatively new. I'm thinking of buying some of them.

Gotcha! I think the width is fine, but that's just me.    Saturday I introduced my nephew to E:A. We used his 28mm rivers and they were fine. I don't have them, but I'm sure the 15mm would be okay, too. Best of all, JR sells connector pieces for all three scales.

Epic- A version of the game with even smaller models that is often dominated by titans which are vehicles the size of a large building and have the ability to pwn...everything. There is also infantry, whose only function in Epic is to provide valuable traction to Titans walking across snowy paths.

And, we got an achievement! My life is complete. I wanted one of those since around episode four...
