re-saving them as a Jpeg or gif often cuts down on the memory.

open them in paint and 'save as' then change the file type in the bottom box.

I just re-saved a 460Kb Jpeg as a 160Kb Gif but made the image grainy as a result.

Simply opening the photo in paint and resaving without changing anything at all took the file size down to 116Kb Jpeg, seemingly with no loss of clarity!
Clearly Paint's autocompression ability is better then i thought.

By cropping the picture back to the bare minimum (ie, just the model) that i wanted i was able to reduce that yet further to 60Kb Jpeg.
Cropping is easy - select the bit you want in paint, ctrl-x, open a new picture and paste.

I'm actually quite impressed with Paint's ability to save memory - it's not something I've looked at properly before.

I'm not good at this but I'll try. These are simple things I can manage to do so it shouldn't be too taxing to you either. describing it all may prove much harder though...

You can EDIT and then SAVE the image without any other change. This sometimes resizes the IMAGE to a smaller size... go figure?.. I don't know why, it just does.

If the image is still too big or wont resize in this way then you have to EDIT it and do what they call CROPPING it.

Their should be small tabs, tiny little grey dots midway along the edge of each side of the picture that allow you to RIGHT CLICK on the tab and DRAG the side of the picture inwards.

This cuts the image down to size but what's cut is lost.

You also have to FLIP/ROTATE the image in order to CROP the other sides (LEFT and TOP) you do this by clicking on IMAGE at the top of the EDIT window... (you've glazed over and I've had an Embolism...) and then FLIP/ROTATE to change the IMAGE facing (Oh, grief! I think we're losing him!).

Can anyone else with a better grip on reality and the English lingo, please help Dwarf Supreme, I think I'm getting one of my headaches!..

:vD  :vD  No need to worry. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. However, beer is always welcome!  :;):

Dumb question. What's "paint?"

It's a simple program with no thrills that windows comes with to EDIT pictures.

Last weekend my nephew and were finally able to play his first game of E:A. We managed to get in three games, one of 1000 points and two of 2000 points. I played IG and given his preference for Eldar in 40k, he wanted to play them in E:A. I warned him beforehand that Eldar were a more difficult army to learn with, but he didn't mind. Unfortunately, he didn't enjoy it as much as I had anticipated. He hated that when firing a roll of 1 always misses and he thinks the barrage rules are horribly broken. In particular, he didn't like that any stand even partially under the barrage template could be hit. Part of the problem he had with barrages, I think, is due to my accidentally taking an artillery company instead of an artillery battery. So, I was playing with 400 more points than I should have been and was hitting him with 9 BPs instead of 3 (I was using Basilisks). I tried to reason with him on both points, but unfortunately I wasn't doing a very good job of it.

Also, some of the Eldar units didn't "feel" right to him compared to how they play in 40k. I was somewhat successful in my explanation that he needed to keep in mind the scale involved and that close combat represented an entire game of 40K. I also mentioned that I think there have been some updates to the Eldar list on Swordwind and that lists for other craftworlds do exist. Since I'm not all that knowledgeable on the current status of these lists, I recommended that he join TacComm to stay on top of them.

Overall he said he didn't have that much fun playing E:A, but I reasoned that it was because he was only playing his first few games. My gut reaction says he's not totally disillusioned with E:A and will play again.

The good news is that he's in the process of building some terrain for a new gaming store, some of which will be for Epic. Also, I asked him to paint the ruined factory from JR Miniatures he said no problem. I asked him because I knew he would do a much better job on it than I could.

I'll keep you all posted on how things go with him.

My months of turmoil are finally over. The outcome wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but at least my divorce has been finalized. Once I get unpacked from having to move, I'll be able to resume painting. Also, now that I'm no longer a homeowner, I'll have more time to devote Epic in general. On a related note, I'm happy to announce that I'm finally an owner of a digital camera! I picked one up a Canon for $130 at Best Buy. As soon as I learn to use the thing I'll snap pictures and then learn how to post pics.

Yesterday my nephew and I played a 2k game, Eldar vs. IG, at new gaming store in our area. Between my pretty abysmal dice rolls at times and some poor play on my part, he won 3-0. I have to give him credit though. He's picking up E:A pretty quickly and learning to stop making direct references to 40k. In fact, he likes the alternating activations so much that he suggested to some of his 40k buddies who were there that he'd like to try 40k with alternating activations. With any luck, we'll be able to play more regularly and recruit some new players.
