Hello everyone.

I am a returning player- great to see that people are still playing epic -and the best rules too, based on second edition (is this for real?). It was my favourite game of all time!

I felt utterly let down by the third edition actually ("add up your troops regardless of type, roll that many dice..."), but that's another story.

It would be great to find any NetEpic players in my area (SW England). I have a large, fully painted ork army sitting idle. Seems a shame that they haven't seen a good battle in several years now. The boyz are spoiling for a good ruck!

So, if anyone wants a game, or knows someone in my area who might that would be great...

I am also totally new to net epic, so any pointers would be handy-

Hi!

If you haven't already, join the yahoo netepic group.

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/netepic/

You may find players that way too.

Hi and welcome to NetEpic Dominic,

It would be great to find any NetEpic players in my area (SW England).

Damn, right compass heading but wrong country. Ever think of moving to Scotland?  :))

Do you have access to a hobby store near by? You may find they run game events at night that may be worth while. They may not play Epic but once you get your feet under the table you can subtly introduce the game and could end up converting players... Ah, the depths of cunning we must lower ourselves too in the name of Epic.

I am also totally new to net epic, so any pointers would be handy-
I find winning helps.  :vD In NetEpic most things are better than SM2 (Space Marine 2)and they cleared up a mass of annoying rule contradictions and problems with the original system. The changes effect the game for the better in my opinion.

I don't think you'd find anyone on this board who'd disagree with that opinion, to a greater or lesser extent; Luckily the current Epic edition (Epic : Armageddon) isn't rubbish, but whichever Epic you enjoy, I wish 'ya fun!

I wasnt let down by third edition. I really like it, and still like it... just not as much as EA.

You can search for players here:

Or perhaps SW New England?  :vD

Welcome to TacComm!

If you liked SM2, I'm sure you'll like NetEpic. As Warhead mentioned, the  NetEpic rules clear up a lot of the inconsistencies. If you can't find any players for NetEpic, I do highly recommend E:A. It should be easier to find players for E:A since that is the current edition.

Thanks for the response everyone.

I'll just have to keep looking for players.

Either that or take a look at "Epic Armageddon" I guess- although it sounds like this came from the ashes of the 3rd edition? Perhaps I'm wrong- but anyhow NetEpic sounds like the way to go, given the rules & system I liked the best.

IMHO the second edition had just the right balance of detail and simplicity. The army cards also made perfect sense and made picking troops easy and flexible.

All that is required now is an opponent!

Perhaps I'm wrong

4th edition (Armageddon) was essentially a ground-up re-write.

But still fair to say Armageddon is much closer to Epic40K than SM2 in almost all respects.

I don't know, the shooting/armour save system has more in common with SM1/2 than E:40k, for example.

It's only the 'engagement' system that really smacks of E40k to me, and even that works properly now (I was never a fan of E40k's generally inconclusive/unimpressive Firefights).

Well it looks like they have at least fixed some of the problems with the E40K system.

I took a leaf out of my own book and visited my local Games Workshop in Glasgow. Took the wee fella' as cover. Asked about Epic and the manager is an Epic player with an Ork army. Games nights for under 16s on Tuesday until 2100 and over 16s are on Thursday night until 2200. I know, not very interesting for you but maybe for others reading this.

They must be hiring better staff as the sales drone I talked to was quite helpful without the cringe effect.

Why not give it a try.
