I thought I'd have another go at 28mm sculpting - and as I didn't feel like doing any more historical research, I decided to do a fantasy model. So I've done a beastman; I've tried to make it different to the GW style, but still recognisably beasty. And I really enjoyed it! I could be tempted to do a few more beasty types- maybe a minotaur or two.
Anyway, hope you like it!

And in case the picture gets shrunk really small agin, here's the address you'll find it on the web: Beastman

Regards,
Reaver

Really, really good, your sculpting has improved tremendously, fancy writing a guide? or is it just lots and lots of practice?

Thanks Justinel - and most of the improvement is just practice, and listening to criticism. It can be difficult when you get told that the figure you've spent hours isn't right, but it's the best way to find out what you're doing wrong.

If I learn any good tricks or tips, I'll post them. And if you're interested in learning to sculpt, join the Yahoo Group 1ListSculpting. There's lots of helpful people there, and there's a great FAQ file as well.

Regards,
Reaver

Thanks Reaver, I think I'll join up and see what's going on.
Happy sculpting

He looks great and the pose is pretty cool. I really can't fault this guy. It does feel like you're being constrained by the base though (like the samurai, he's got his legs fairly together and that limits the dynamism of the pose), next time don't worry about making him fit on a slottabase, and worry about that after the sculpt. In this case, while I quite like the pose, I can't help feel it would be better if he was orientated diagonally across the base (like GW's slots are) to spread his legs a bit.

Seriously, though, he's awesome, and definately as good or better than most 28mm ranges out there.

Otter's right though, you really want to show us you can sculpt then give us something pretty to gawp at. If you can do a pretty girl you can do anything.

Hang on, I'm pretty sure there's something hanging behind that Loin Cloth... parhaps it's just really cold where he's from, or something...  :))

What, Chris Moyles?  :;):  :p  :vD   (Sorry, only UK members are likely to get that...)

Joking aside, it's a fantastic sculpt Reaver.  Looking forward to seeing more!

Okay, O-man and Lord I, I'll have a go at a woman next... but no pervy Slanneshy skimpiness for you Otter, you naughty boy, you! I'm thinking more Bretonnian Damsel style. I'll see how it goes - but if she looks hideous, I might just claim she's another Beastman sculpt... :;):

Regards,
Reaver

That guy needs a big drum...

Certainly Chris Moyles is an option, or any other very fat man, breasts and all.

I'd be more impressed female wise with a 'proper' female. How about a Chechin Black Widow? Tricky model but pretty unique if you pull it off.

(For those of you not obessively following warzone developments a black widow is a Chechen lady whose family has supposedily been zapped by the Russians (or raped into submission by her comrades, or brainwashed etc), then takes on a suicide mission (no idea what they call regular female troops), most amusingly when a couple couldn't map read in Moscow and got lost. Quite rare these days wth the Russians killing everyone in sight and buying off the ones that keep out of their way, but still sometimes pop up.)

The Chechen Black Widow sounds a bit grim for me, TRC - I don't know why, but I always feel uncomfortable sculpting modern subjects. Fantasy and scifi violence is fine, historical is fine too, but current stuff makes me shiver. A bit hypocritical, I suppose, but it's just how I feel. That, and I'm already halfway through doing a Grail Damsel! :))

If I get a good crack on tomorrow, I'll get some pics up - but I have a couple of other jobs to do as well, so no promises.
Regards,
Reaver
