Hi, I'm just about to start playing (as soon as I get my Orks built I'll have a couple of decent-sized armies and I've found a couple of willing opponents) but I'm pretty sure my Ork army is missing some vital bits and bobs. Not having played since the days of Space Marine I'd appreciate some buying advice from you more experienced players.

Here's what I have:

3 x ?normal? Ork warbands
Gargant
Stompa mob (3 stompas)
6 bases stormboyz
6 bases Kommandos
8 Buggies
8 Skorchas
10 Gunwagons
10 battlewagons
Gunfortress
2 mekboy speedsers (oddboy upgrades for gunwagons)

So, obviously I?m missing a few elements (aircraft, flakwagons, gunzmobs, dreadnoughts?)

So, what would you buy to get this up to a decent force? Any ideas?

I would consider myself a fairly experienced Ork player.
And I Wouldn't leave home without my Stompa mob.
1 Superstompa
3 Stompas
and 1-4 dreadnoughts/killkanz (depending upon how many points I can spare).

It takes alot of beating, and the MW Barrage from the superstompa can be really devastating.

I also lika 1 Big BigGun Mob. With 2 soopaguns. Placed on an objective in terrain and on owerwatch, you can gain early boardcontrol, which is important since you'll probably be outactivated (atleast in the beginning).

And except for the things you mentioned (Fightas and flakwagonz) it looks like a fairly nice beginning. My tip is to start play with what you've got, and see what you like, lots of Footslogging Mobs/Transported Mobs/Speedfreaks/Gargant Attack.
Thats one of the things that I like about Orks, you can adapt them to your playing style (as long as you like Axe-to-mouth style).

Thanks for the tips. I'll try and cobble together a superstompa for the mob I've got. In fact, that's something I've wanted to do for a while but so far I've failed to get hold of the saw-arm from the Necromunda Pit-slaves that I want for the conversion. The rest of him is pretty much ready to go...

I might have to get myself some bigguns, I there's a chap on Warseer selling some cheap  :) .

Any other suggestions?

I've got 16 Flak wagons if you're interested.  I won't be able to trade though until the 8th of June or so.  PM me if you're interested at any rate.

Hi Dave, thanks for the offer but I've just picked up a couple to start me off. If I need more I'll know where to come!

Levinas:  You have a very respectable core for an army.  The only think you're missing is some AA, so either Flakwagonz or Fightabommas.

From there it really depends on what sort of style you want to play.  You could bulk up and go infantry horde.  You could buy Kult of Speed units and stick with fast, mounted warbands (or turn it all into a Speed Freek army).  You could go with shooty stuff like lots of Big Gunz and walkers, with Zzaps and Soopagunz.  It just depends on what your preferred play style is.

My suggestion would be to play a few games and see what you like before deciding how to expand.

Sounds like good advice to me. I've bought myself a couple of packs of big guns and a pack of Flak wagons to fill the obvious gaps. Next up is actually playing a game! Then no doubt I"ll be going shopping again...  :)

i just recently faced two formations of 8 Deth Koptas each and that was kinda scary. She marched (105cm!) one formation up the right side and the other up the left side and pincered my two Basilisk formations (3 basilisks each) and caused both of them to break in turn two.

Mind you they are not terrifying units, but their speed and armour make them very dangerous if used in the right way.

And they're great figures too... I think that's just extended my shopping list!
