I sold off a few excess bits recently of Fleabay, one of which was a Baneblade.
Took a pretty decent picture of it, cropped it so it didn't look like a dot on a table and so buyers can see it's intact. Listed it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws....GB:1123 as Epic Baneblade, in Epic 40000 section.
Buyer from Australia, pays ?8.49 plus ?P&P.
I post it off, get an e-mail along the lines of where is it? Apologies were sent for not posting it next day, say it may take 2-3 weeks from the UK.
Yesterday, I get this e-mail.

"hI I got the bane blade tank but it has shrunk in the post !! It isnt what is pictured or as discribed because it is tiny and you didnt mention it was a minature!! The picture is much bigger and gives the impression that it is to scale by your wording on the description. your desciption said it is a epic bane blade , not a minature epic bane blade.I'm not happy :-{"

I write back, send link to Solegends' page with the old Baneblade, linkto GW's page with new one, I think to myself " It can't be much smaller than the new one" (I'm not even sure if the've changed it at all)
Then it strikes me, does my buyer think they've bought one of those great big Armageddon 40K ones?
So I put a link to that and ask, pointing out that they're ?60.00 brand new, she didn't think that she'd bought one of those, did she?

This morning, I get this lovely e-mail.

"Well it looked like the standard size on the website ,I was under the impression it would be about 15cm by 9cm . not a minature. I am new to the war hammer thing and you should specify size of the item on ebay in the future so there is no confusion! A bane blade is a what it  is how would i know it would come in a minature size! my son worked his a*** off to save for this item and now i have to resell the @@@king thing! thanks for a total waste of time and money In future list your items clearly!!!!!"

I may point out. that there were no *** or @@@ in her original.
Nice, some people.

Some people!  Now I can understand if it was mislisted or didn't state it was Epic but bloomin henry how many times did you mention it in that listing! Some people should read the buying guides before bidding me thinks.

Wow, id say that pretty much  entirely her fault for not thinking before she bought. Thankfully ive never had any problems like that when using fleabay.

You should ask her to take the Pepsi-Max challenge:

We asked 100 randomly selected grunts to tell us which was the bigger tank, A or B

I mean, honestly how hard can it be?

Well, this all seems like normal human behavior to me. You did everything right and ignorant human got angry for that. It is too usual that humans dont see their own faults but blame others for them.

There is at least one eBay trader who deliberately passes off forgeworld epic models as 40k ones, so you want to avoid being in the same catagory as him.

To make things clear, many people put a line something like this in their advert:

"Please note that this is a small scale Epic model, much smaller than the 40k scale version."

This is unfortunate. It appears that the buyer wasnt even aware that these things came in two sizes, and that the word 'Epic' in the title referred to the fact that it would 'pwn everyfin on da table'.

I dont think that it would have mattered how clear you were in the listing, to be honest. On the flip side, if someone is not aware that there is another game, I cant blame them for not looking for something that 'doesnt exist'.

Difficult result.

I dont know about not being able to blame the buyer.  Anyone using Ebay should know that it is "buyer beware" territory.  If someone isnt doing their research before bidding on items then they had better learn fast from their mistakes.

The forgeworld scam was a bit different as that was someone doing their best to make the listing confusing, but you could still see from the photos that something was up wit the detail of the models.

I think the guy who was running the Forgeworld scam isn't allowed to use bank accounts anymore. :D

He was banned from Ebay about 4 times before he stopped coming back.

Not exactly.  It was more that he neglected to mention that these were the epic models.  So he would say things like "one Forgeworld Chimera in perfect condition" avoiding any mention of the system.

He would also post it in the Epic category so He could claim they were properly listed and then had a disclaimer saying something to the effect of "no refunds if you dont get what you expected".  I saw crazy things like epic squiggoths going at 4 times the price.

I was actually considering getting in on the action myself till i realised the high prices were because people thought these were 40k models rather than just paying silly prices on ebay (dont laugh- ive seen people pay way more than retail for some things just so they can "win" the auction!)

Anyway, the scam is detailed here

If anything offer a refund minus the shipping charges if the person will return it to you (make sure to get proof of postage). Yes, you could have stated that it was "not 40k scale" but ultimately I'd say that it is the buyer's own responsibility to know that different scales exist.

That's harsh, adam... but eBay policy (as far as I'm aware) will protect you and see this woman get penalised.  You can actually complain against another eBay user if they have used offensive or abusive language against yout; that, and the fact that you did not go against eBay policy in listing your item:

- you listed it in the correct category (eg Epic 40000)
- you put 'Epic' in the title
- you included a picture, that shows that the miniature is not he same as either the GW plastic version, or the FW resin (mega expensive :p ) version.

You did not do what the person C&E amongst others refer to, that is putting the item in the Epic section, not including any pictures, then conveniently neglecting to state clearly (if at all) that the model is for EPIC, not 40k

Personally, I think from this point of view you should complain to eBay and let them sort this person out; they might be ignorant about 'war hammer' (sic) but there is no excuse for being rude and using profanity when addressing a complaint towards another eBay user.  On top of that, if they weren't so ignorant, perhaps they could have discussed return/refund - and maybe you'd have accomodated them...

Just my two-pennorth... :)

Was that the chap who sold lots of the Epic Ork Battlewaggons, where even the photos on Forgeworld's site are identical?
