In England we have an old saying that relates to one of our kings who lost a battle trying to put down a rebellion, was killed at the end of it and so the crown passed on to a different family:-

"For the lack of a nail, the (horse-)shoe was lost
For the lack of a shoe the horse was lost (went lame)
For the lack of the horse, the rider was lost (unavailable)
For the lack of the rider, the message was lost (did not arrive)
For the lack of the message the battle was lost
For the lack of the battle, the kingdom was lost
- - and all for the lack of a nail"

Basically, sometimes the smallest detail can have a huge effect (nowadays it is loosely called chaos theory). So you could say that some part of the machinery was corroded, not connected or tied down properly, and it was jolted loose when the titan stubbed its toe - causing the reactor to go critical etc

The 'reactor' critical is also abstracted, IMHO... it could represent a number of different ways in which a titan can be destroyed.

You don't "need" to be running your forces in cover all the time, mainly, you just need to do it during the first two turns... after that the Deathstrikes will have launched, spaceships will have passed, and you'll have destroyed all the enemy TK weapons...   :D

Then, on to victory!

From your battle, even though a lot of TK missed, think if the Orks had yet *another* -1 to their attack rolls... the Fighta-bommerz would've been much less effective, the "hail mary" massed Mob fire would've been almost completely ineffective, and Supa-Zzapps would be hitting on 5+ after a double!  

It really makes a huge difference.

I think the concept of titans taking cover in ruins and woods is something that some players find a little bizzare - I know my arguments of commando-crawling ravager titans have fallen on deaf ears!

Is there a consensus on just when and where a titan should be classed as in cover and receive a -1, and if not is it worth discussing, especially wrt AMTL list design? (if titans cant effectively take cover, does this count against them enough to impact upon actual point values?)

And more importantly, is this the wrong place for me to bring this up and does it deserve its own thread?

A unit getting the cover bonus doesn't necessarily mean they're belly-crawling through the bushes!  *laugh*

The cover mod is to be applied "generously" in EPIC.  A Titan standing in a ruin will be obscured by partial walls or broken girders, while one standing in a forest or jungle will be, at least partially, protected by trees and concealed by foliage.  It doesn't mean the Titan is hunkering down, just that it's not fully visible to the enemy; the same -1 applies if the Titan's, or any unit's, profile is partially blocked by a hill or building when drawing LOS from the shooter.

A Titan standing at the corner of a building will be harded to hit than one standing out on an open hill...

Thats not far from how I thought of it but I realise its up for debate. I'm wondering what the common standard is for 'partially blocked'? 1/3, 1/2 or 2/3?
