I managed to pick up around 5000pts of Nids for ?30. Which was rather good.. However it is seriously low in Common Broods, so I will probably be putting it together as a 3k army to start with.. Never having played with Tyranids this is what I've come up with. Any suggestion needed.

Common

12x Gargoyles 300
12x Hormagaunt 150
24x Temagant 450

900

Uncommon

1x3 Carnifex 100
1x3 Haruspex 150
1x  Trygon 100
1x2 Exocrine 150

500

Synapse

1x  Harriden 200
3x3 Warriors 450
1x  Hive Tyrant 100

750

Independant

1x7 Genestealer Swarm 175
1x6 Lictors 300
1x  Hydraphant 375

850

Awesome deal!

And, yeah, Common Broods aren't so common anymore!

I'd suggest trying to get some 40k Rippers to use a Raveners to bulk up your Common Broods.

Are the models you got based and painted already?  If not, try doing 4 Common Brood models to a base instead of 5 to make them stretch.

Looking forward to seeing some pics!

They are based, but I was planning to strip and rebase them so I will probably do what you suggest.. Do you think the 3k army needs any more?

Seems like a good amount to me!  I like Raveners, but many play without them.

The models you've got should give you a competitive army... regardless of which way the list evolves.  *laugh*

I think 4 to a base looks fine and I use 20x40mm bases.  And like Chroma said it will up your units by 20%.  Picking them up on eBay will be fairly expensive.  7 USD a sprue is how they've been going.

Epic 40k 'fex... don't get me started.  I've seen less than half a dozen auctions for those over the past year.  It's never pretty.

I have 3 of the huge original ones. So I will have to use them, I would have prefered the smaller ones.

I have 6 of each and prefer the bigger ones.  They are esier to convert into the new hunched version.

Looks pretty neat! I'm still of the opinion that at least one of the common brood creatures should be an AV, personally. Just because the prospect of an all-biotank army would be neat.

Something along that line is in the works for one of the alt-Tyranid lists I've got on the back burner...

On round washers as bases they look good with 3-4 infantry per base and stretch even further.
