This is Markconz and Dave's version of the special rules and changes that should be put in Tyranids v8.5

Please read this post before commenting/playing: Deathmatch

This is a quote from Dave regarding these rules:

I would be all for removing "and remove all Blast markers" from the last paragraph of spawning. Especially if disposable ga(u)nts are kept. I think auto-rallying AND removing all the BMs is too much of a jump from the norm.

I'm inclined to agree and will be trying with this modification in my next game.

I had some additional comments/suggestions on the full version of this rules variant here:

Ok I've made an updated PDF document. The front page is the important bit being a cleaned up and updated set of special rules for this 'Deathmatch' variant, based on some feedback from Dave and Rahan and trying to match Chroma's desired terminology:
http://www.box.net/shared/4kstaal0cg

Also has some experimental bio-titan rules to try and give them bit of a boost.

I got a 3K game in with DS today (hopefully be posting soon).  Unfortunately I didn't see this until now.  The special rules I used matched the updated ones in your PDF.  The only exception was that I didn't have:

and never count as having more blast markers than the enemy in an assault

and

If a broken swarm is engaged and loses it will be wiped out as normal.

The second didn't come up in our game, so not a big deal.  I like it though, it represents the confusion a Synapse Swarm suffers under and that they can be easily hacked down while the Hive Mind link is broken.

The first came up in a couple of assaults though.  I think at this point I'm willing to go with this downgrade.  It's still a step above regular formations but not two steps above like it was before.

On the unit changes, the only one I feel I can comment on is the Carnifex.  I think a 4+ RA would fit the fluff better, and put it inline with a Tyrant's toughness (minus the IS).  However, in the Phase III list Carnifex are murder (ask DS!).

I'm not a fan of the brood creature army list re-org but that's a minor point.

BatReps to come.

EDIT

Just caught the changes to spawning, I didn't use that as well.  This might have made a minor difference here or there (in favor of the bugs) had I used it.  Given the one-sided-ness of our battle though I don't think the change is needed.  Broken = no spawning is fine by me.

I look forward to seeing the battle report! :) I haven't played any games with Phase III so will have to check that out.

DS and I should be getting together again tomorrow for possibly 2 games.  Hopefully these will go a little better.  I've read the rules through again in preparation.  Hopefully BatReps will be up by the end of the week.

Here's a reference sheet I threw together of 8.4M Phase III.

Hi guys

After months of playing warmaster with my new orc army my nids are being dusted off ready for war this weekend. I am going with the Markconz Genus list as per the pdf on this thread. But I have a question....

Gaunts are listed as 'Disposable' but the list does not mention Disposable as a special rule.

Should the gaunts have the wording removed from their notes or does the list need the rule adding?

As listed in this tread:

DEATHMATCH RULES

Please read the above linked post before you proceed on your DEATHMATCH games.  Thanks!

The over-arcing system for this Deathmatch playtesting is that the "Markconz Codex" will be used as baseline rules; the disposable rule can be found there.

I'm looking forward to playing epic again after a few months off! :)

Sneaky quick question (in the wrong place I know!) .....I am right in thinking that Lictors can now pick up BMs when teleporting in aren't I?

We are playing a little knockout competition and I have drawn Orkybob's Orks in the first battle (again!) - if I beat them then I will fight the Black Legion (who have a 1st round bye) then if I win that it will be either the Imperial Guard or Marines. If I lose against Orkybob (as if!) then I'll just get drunk!!!
