After it's posted, we're going to have a long hard talk about the Jetpack rule. :)

QUOTE
After it's posted, we're going to have a long hard talk about the Jetpack rule. :)

E&C - I'm not trying to cause a problem here but does this quote from Jstr19 explain your issue?
"I won because for some reason EvilandChaos positioned his monoliths too far away and then tried to assault a battlesuit formation that jumped out of range of most of his support fire."

Just because they were able to jump out of range of supporting fire from a Monolith, doesn't make the rule broken.

The jumpack rule isn't broken, as long as the opponent remembers it and takes it into account when setting up an assault ?:;): .

Jstr19 actually agrees with me that it's broken, and that there are better mechanics to achieve a similar effect available, so I don't think a quote from him will help, sorry Onyx. :)

I've probably played about 20 games vs. the current version of the Tau list, only two of them with Necrons (Which were my first and second games ever with Necrons).

My main complaint about the rule is that there is no limit on the amount of times it can be used. EvilandChaos rarely forces me into an engagement because of this. When he declares an assault I can premeasure to all his formations near my Jetpack troops and make sure that he can't manage to assault me with any of them and because I can jump away again it is extremely easy because I can be up to 9 and a bit centimetres closer to his troops. I have done this many times and it has almost caused him to give up attempting to assault my battlesuits. I have also used it to draw him into assaults when he has verry little chance of winning by jumpingback into support fire range of Manta's, Stealth suits and many other such formations. Because of our experiences with this rule I think he has a very valid point claiming it broken and very open to abuse.

All that said, maybe Jstr19's original post could have been worded differently then... sorry E&C but its wording definately points to a tactical error on your part.
It certainly does not sound like a complaint about the rule.

I'm not trying to pick a fight (please hear that guys), but I always try to work with what I've got first rather than moving the goalposts because I think they're not in the right place.
An opponent of the Tau knows the jetpack rule. Its up to them to make sure they deal with it.

Wasn't hit-n-run changed so that the Eldar only get their 'huge movement' if they initiated the assault?

(IE: They only get it a maximum of once per turn)

The Jetpack rule *is* broken. A 10cm post-shooting move is far more fair (We've playtested it in half a dozen games and preferred it).

I hope that version of Tau list does not have a 100 point Orca...
Heck I would pay 100 point anyday for an extra activation which can also put a single blastmarker anywhere on the board. If I then get as an extra - still for same price - more firepower than in 2 fighta-bombers and a possibility to contest an objective...

Huh, the main Eldar player in my group (Pulsar) has been playing it that way for a while.

Jetpacks are still broken. :D
