But to be honest I have the same problem with orks. I never get my planes where I want them because of 3 flakwagons in every Ork formation. And not every tyranid formation includes gargyles (at least not in my list). sadly most of the times my opponent gets some of my formation with his planes without gargyle cover. I always saw the AA gargyle as a fluffy gadget and it was never a real threat o ambitious Ground attacks (despite of one or two VERY lucky shots).

The fix I proposed some time before is to remove the gargyle after making a successful hit.  (suizidal attack) So it gets really expensive and some fighter can open the way for bombers by simply "distracting" the little buggers :)

One game is enough reference? ;)

Agreed, decision already made a priori perhaps...
"Bad Gargoyles. Hates them I does!"   :p

Come on Hena - Flap Flap Splat! What's not to like?  :;):

So has anyone tested those spores yet?  I have a feeling they might have to go at 15cm.  If the rules are sufficiently developed that they can do more than just guard dactylis effectively, then AA gargoyles could be ditched perhaps, but not until that point.

I've tested the Spores in several games, and found them to work well as a deterrant, plus I even got to Engage with them one time! :D

AA Gargoyles on the other hand, should be removed.

I don't want to get rid of the "spawn booster" item, but I'd like a better name for it, any ideas?

Well crazy Latin based names aside how about something simple like Spawning Spores or Spawn Spore?

The other suggestion I made on another thread was to just change how you describe them.  Call them Mycetic Spores and say they're the Tyranid's means of reinforcements sent from their hive ships above when requested by the hive creatures.

I liked Hena's suggestion of making the Nodes more like the Biel-Tan Wraithgate.

As to the AA Gargoyle's, I can't comment on them game wise but fluff wise as a huge AA screen they fit very well.

I find that 'Mycetic Spores' creates confusion with 'Meiotic Spores'.

So:

- Increased Spawning.
- Extra Spawning.
- Spawn Boost.

Something like that?

Something like that?

- Brood gathering
- Synaptic rally scream or "cry"
- Hive call
- Psychic reconnect (OK, that's a little goofy, sort of like a Psychic Friends Network)

We have. Similar results to yours. Overall, they weren't a huge air deterrent but they did discourage using air in the confined area they protected and I suppose more of them could have been purchased.

They were great as assault support and initiators at least in our game.

That's not good news. I really would like to prevent them from interacting with ground units ... oh well. That would require too much new rules and that's out practically :(.

Actually, having them provide limited assault support is entirely in-character with their 40k / background counterparts.

In 40k, their primary use is in AA for Tyranids.

However, if there's no AA to be found, they are potent anti-infantry organisms.

In essence, that means that they can be dangerous during a Firefight in Epic.

So I think the current implementation is pretty much perfect in that regard.

While I applaud the want to downgrade FF of the units, it should not be done without the three exceptions: Vituperator, Harridan and Malefactor.

Hena, why do you feel the two skimmers should have better firefight than other Tyranids?

As WE they're getting more attacks, and they both have respectable close combat attacks.
