Hi,

Years ago, ~10 years, I painted Egrimm von Horstmann & Baudrois the two-headed Dragon. A stunning and for years well painted model.

But not anymore. It still is a very cool model but in some parts the painting and 'how-I-put-it-together' lacks to my today's standards.

So I ask you people if you can give me tips on what I should do?

* How can I take the model apart and put it back together again with smooth lines?

* A simple white overspray or a complete paint stripper?

* Other things?

It would probably be best to strip it completely. You don't want too many layers of paint obscuring details.

I searched a little (not being lazy)

and settled for this:

remove the plastic wings
remove the base

use nail polish remover on the metal body (should I boil in water before, like Krooza once suggested?

use alcohol on plastic wings, like Soulstone on SG site suggested?

Could it work?

I have found Dettol to be areally good paint stripper on both plastic and metal. As long as the model is not varnished it will strip pretty much anything after a few days soak and, best of all, is non corrosive to plastic.

I saw it, I am still searching the Dutch equivalent of simple green (not being the green grass that is).

Found a site (order only :( ) but okay, also in the Netherlands

Here is the English version:
http://www.simplegreen.ch/pages....av_id=3

which of the simple green products is the one needed to remove the paint?

thank you already!  :)

Don't buy the nail polish remover from the cosmetics section. Go to a hardware store and buy acetone - it is the same stuff but at about 1/5 the cost - and doesn't contain fragrances. Be aware that it is quite toxic, so wear gloves and a respirator. It is very effective though. I've even used it to dissolve paint that is clogged in the ferrule. As you have read, it can't be used on plastic.

The project is underway in fashion. I finished the base first; fitting it to the Dragon's position.
I used Makin's Clay to create rock like surface. Painted it and added static grass. I should put up a pic of it soon. Worked out really well.

The dragon is getting its first flesh tone: Dark Flesh to create a base colour for a more red surface.

Egrimm is still blank.

Hi BH,

It sounds like you're going to have to strip it, reprime it and then start over... as others have mentioned.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Oh! That already happened. The dragon was completely blank.

Aceton removed everything from the metal within an instance.

Alcohol + brush removed paint from plastic wings.
