People like this just mess everything up for everybody.  I bought an imperial guard army from a guy on ebay and when I recieved it and started to strip the paint I found out the entire army were recast and really bad recast if I may say so.  My first clue was the fact that all the sponsons on the SH tanks were made onto the model instead of being seperate.  It made me nervous about buying painted stuff for a good long while.  Good luck with this guy and hope he does the right thing.

Um, should I get nervous about all of these goings-on?

i think the issue here is this is a deliberate attempt to supply copies without the original and making a profit...

if im correct (in the UK at least), as long as you have the original you may own a copy. but you cannot sell that copy for profit....

That is for media such as music and software. Most products dont fall under this category, and for those you cannot make copies (as far as I know), even for your own use. Think of it this way, making a copy for yourself stops you buying a second item of whatever.

I remember a few months back in one of the White Dwarf they had a warning about recasts.

well one thing is for sure, all the talk about them being recasts has not stopped people from bidding on them.....If people keep buying them, he will keep recasting them.....hope no one from this board is bidding on them, even more so if you have ever posted about recasting as a bad thing

An easy way to tell if a Capitol Imperialis is a fake or not is to check the tracks... the original has plastic tracks, while recasts will have metal ones.

However, it's one thing to bid on something knowing that it's a recast and another matter if you're not even aware that the item is a recast.

My Looted Ork CI that I posted pics of here in the past ... was cast from my original, that my buddy cast in resin. But the casting is never good enough to be used as an Imperial CI. ?I had it sitting in my bitz box for years. ? But with patches etc., it's fine for Orks ! And I used Dark Future car tires and Airfix 1/72 M3 ? Track treads, instead on the Tracks (which G/W copied from a 1/72 scale M113!) ... So IMO, if I can look at it, in my hands, I can tell if it's real or not. ?But painted on eBay ... it's any one's guess. ?"Caveate Emptor " (excuse my poor latin") - "Let the Buyer Beware". ?Or as P.T. Barnum put it - "A sucker is born every minute" ?I won't make any FRoA quotes ! :alien:

I'm probably going to have a bid on some of this stuff;  bear in mind we don't have any proof at all that this stuff is recasts.

And I have to say it seems unlikely that the seller would go to the trouble of painting and basing (and in some cases converting) if he was just recasting stuff for profit.

Until someone comes up with evidence, I'm going to assume this seller is innocent.
Regards,
Reaver

I've noticed a particular ebay seller selling quite a few CIs without tracks which I found quite suspicious
