That is the rule....anything with First Fire orders can shoot at them with no penalty. ?I have no problem with this at all. ?If you want to talk "reality" from the point of view of units on the ground, the drop pods are descending pretty much straight down and from a really long way up....anyone should be able to shoot them. ?Also a pretty easy shot...a vivid red blob coming straight down....not crossing until right near the end. ? For your analagy, take a bus, ?paint it dayglo orange and drop it from 15km straight down on a modern combined arms army, see if they can't hit it before it lands on them.....
As far as game play, having any penalty on the targetting of drop pods would be very bad from a game balance point of view....from recent experience I think they are marginally overpowered already. ?I shudder to think how many Mycetic Spores I'd face if they were made any better. ?I'm sure some of us oldies remember the abusive Marine Drop Pod/T-Hawk armies...
i understand what you mean, the pods are very heavy but then you must take them out of game! fact is that it is not equal if something is fallen from the sky or standing on the ground. and if you shoot snap fire, then you get the -1 to hit roll...and do not forget. shooting on deathstrike missles give you a -2 hit roll...you have to stay in balance there too.
i think it were to heavy if no snap fire would be allowed to shoot pods but i keep my opinion that the logical sense is not there due to the pods!
