I dropped by on our old Eldar player?s place last Sunday and we had a game on his circular living room table, 90cm diameter, made into a battlefield using three small hills and a couple of smallish stones for rubble I brought.

Lists, from memory:

Lugganath 0.4

850 Warlock Titan PowerFist PsyLance
750 Phantom Titan FusionLance D-Cannon
250 Shields of Vaul 5 Falcons
225 Aspect Warhost 6 Shining Spears
175 Shields of Vaul 3x NightSpinner
125 Guardian Warhost
125 Guardian Warhost

Chaos BL 3.7

800 Banelord
450 Armoured Coy 6 LandRaider
450 Armoured Coy 6 LandRaider
540 Chosen 6 Chosen, Daemon Prince, Pact, Icon Bearer, Champion, 1 Obliterator

100 1 Greater Daemon
160 4 Lesser Daemons

The list isn?t completely legal as the Chosen have 5 upgrades when 4 are allowed. Seems I?ve been playing to much Eldar lately...

The Battle

We played without objectives as the small table would ensure total bloodshed anyway. Setup was from two points on opposing sides of the table, 30cm to each side and up to 15 into the table. The hills and rubble formed a central valley, a killzone so to say.

The Chosen teleported close to some Guardians and the Phantom on the Eldar right flank, where the Swords were in a position to lend support. They were actually intermingled, but due to the cramped conditions we had agreed that only two formations could be declared intermingled. I received a single BM from teleporting

My CSM thankfully won the initiative, else the game would have lasted 20 minutes. The Banelord unloaded its Havoc Rack at the Swords, Guardians and Phantom, killing two Falcons, breaking them, but failing to kill any Guardians or damage the Phantom due to solid saves all around.

Retaining, the Chosen swept in, summoning a Bloodthirster and smashing into the Guardians and Phantom. At the cost of 2 Chosen and the Oblit, I killed all the Guardians except for the Farseer, caused 1 damage on the Phantom and broke both formations.

The Eldar countered with the NightSpinners, but only placed 2 BM on one Land Raider formation. The other swept forward and began lasering the Warlock, causing 2 damage, which then moved over towards the Chosen and unleashed with its PsyLance, coming close to breaking them.

The Shining Spears then piled in, engaging the Bloodthirster outside the rubble with the Warlock in support. After the dust had settled, only the Daemon Prince and a single Shining Spear survived, the Bloodthirster laid slain from 3 unsaved hits. The DP of course stood its ground fearlessly.

More Land Raiders zoomed forward, annihilating the NightSpinners in a storm of energy, but hideously exposing themselves to an assault from the remaing Guardian formation with the Warlock once more in support. I had hoped to kill off sufficient numbers of saveless Guardians to avoid support fire, but abysmal FFing on my side and the Farseer saving the only hit left 5 Land Raiders dead.

The Phantom failed to rally, as did the Swords and Farseer, while the Shining Spear, Deamon Prince and my Land Raider did.

Turn 2 went to BL once again, with the Banelord hellstriking the Warlock, damaging it further and breaking it before it could activate. The Daemon Prince then helped himself to 3 Daemonic Beast, spread his wings to fly around the broken but blocking Warlock and assaulted the broken and intermingled Farseer and Falcons, wiping both out.

The Spear doubled and put a single BM on the Land Raider, breaking it. 2nd Guardians failed their activation and regrouped.

I failed to rally the Land Raider, while the Phantom recovered ?but not the Warlock.

Turn 3 saw the Eldar moving first, doubling the Phantom into weapons range and unleashing on the Banelord. Had the Falcons been around the Chaos Titan would have been a few shields down and died right there, torn apart by D-Cannon and pierced by the Fusion Lance, but 6 TK hits went to the shields and only 3 hit the machine itself, which went critical... and stormed 12cm straight at the Phantom, bringing it into CCrange!

The Eldar tried to break the DP with a single BM next, but were forced to hold once again and were out of range.

Now, the Banelord engaged, and after a titanic clash brought the Phantom low, though it suffered heavy damage in the two rounds of combat (damn Holofield, while I couldn?t do a 4+RA even if my life depended on it). With only 1 DC left it stumbled forward, broken but unyielding, and eyeing the Warlock with hateful... errm sensors?

The Land Raiders sustained on the Warlock, bringing it down to 1 DC. The Spear ran down the remaing LR form the other formation, killing it with a BM while broken. The DP unsuccessfully assaulted the Guardians, killing three but losing some daemons and, more importantly, assault resolution, but remained in base contact with the enemy nonetheless.

The Banelord shed BM in the Endphase, the Warlock recovered as well and all was set for the final clash.

The Eldar once again moved first, and the Warlock tore into the Land Raiders with accurate fire, leaving the single survivor an easy picking for the Spear.

Now the Banelord activated, lowering its Hellstrike Cannon at the Warlock and blowing it to smithereens. the battle was over as the remaing Eldar fled in terror...

Observations

Lugganath played nicely, and without me cutting the activation advantage early on I would have been toast. Knocking out the Falcons in the opening move was critical, the Banelord would have been destroyed with ease otherwise.

The D-Cannon was fearsome using the stats I proposed on SG,

30cm D3+1BP Ignore Cover (vs WE only), Titan Killer (D6)

while the Fusion Lance just isn?t in the same league and needs a boost IMO. Having a template makes the D-Cannon and PsyLance quite useful against AV targets, while the FusionLance is quite accurate and moderately powerful against WE it should be more so due to its specialization.

I?ll field it again, and have also almost finished the Twin Tremor Cannon Phantom (needs the base flocked and varnish, but that?s it).

Nice batrep.  I wish there could have been pictures  :(  but sometimes that just isn't an option.

What was your feeling on the support formations.  Were there enough options to keep your activations up?

Any plans to play a larger game?  :;):

Definitely planning on a larger game, I?d love to field three Titans at once. Might be 2-4 weeks though before I get around to play once again, getting a new girlfriend has priority :;):

Support choices seem okay, I?m somewhat constricted by model availability as I have finished no Aspects except for the Swooping Hawks I used at the tourney, and proxied the Spears with some Jetbikes in this battle.

However, with the smaller/cheaper Guardians and the standard Shields of Vaul, to say nothing about 4-Ranger formations, activations shouldn?t be an issue.
