Chaos release and rules!

So here is a thought... the lists are becoming official and they are even releasing a sprue for it, but no book like Swordwind.  Yes I know that is alot to ask of one man, but the book needs to only have a single list more (something Imperial I think) and then a conflict for background of the book (The 13th Black Crusade for example) front to end - like the Baran War.  So my question would be - what 'additional' list would be added to the book?  I like the links between the list published and the conflict in the book.

The original plan, now vanished into antiquity, was to have a series of releases like Swordwind.  The Chaos release would have been related to the last Black Crusade and would have included the Chaos lists and probably either a Cadian IG list or Ulthwe to fit with the Crusade theme.

Is there any reason that we as the players can not produce a pdf similar to that format?

I do not think a Cadian IG list is a great description as you can easily have a Mechanized Cadian list with the Steel Legion list.  Right now the IG list in development are the Krieg offensive siege list and an armored list (which could be made a Cadian list).  The Ulthwe list is also a good option.  Both of course require that they be play tested throughly.

I can't remember the full list offhand, but from memory, Cadians in 40k get:

-Stormtroopers    (Stormtroopers are more common)
-Grenadiers         (Stormtroopers are even more common, but can't take Valkyries)
-Iron Discipline     (They have good leadership)
-Sharp Shooters   (Superior at shooting)
-Special Weapons Squads     (Can take small detached squads with special guns)
-Conscripts         (Conscripts, yay!)
-Sanctioned Psykers      (Smite! yay!)

None of the above are available to the Steel Legion IG, and you could probably make an IG list around them.

Going with the Doctrines from 40k would also help you eliminate certain upgrades (For example you can't have Ratling Snipers or Ogryns in the Cadian Guard).

But anyway the Cadian IG models are long OOP, so I don't see it being a priority for getting a list unless the Plastic Cadian IG Sprue was put back into production.


Which is a pity, as there's probably a list in there somewhere (Albeit one with large overlaps with the Steel Legion list).

That is not what I am suggesting (I do however have those infantry for my regiment).  What about something like the armored regiment for the list.  It could work.

I realize that the 40k list has some variety to make it 'different' from the steel legion.  But you can definitely play a Cadian army using the Steel Legion list or plenty of other list.

Everything is already being produced in PDF's for download?   ???

The Chaos lists are about to be released, Ulthwe and others are still being worked on.

Are you talking about producing background fluff and stuff?

Based on what Jervis said abotu the offficial pdfs, I wonder if this means we might be in a position to push for the entry of the Tau list into the rulebook section of the Epic site?

The list is in good shape (more or less), the models are ready, and it would capitalise on the Tau presence in A.I. (including the coming release of the AX-1-0!).

And CyberShadow, if you would be interested in pushing for a similar status for the Gue'senshi (akin to the Black Legion/LATD Chaos options), please feel free! (My list was originally going to go into the Vault, pre-'reorganisation'...)

Yes I am talking about the background sections and stuff for a book.  For now a working title would be "Black Crusade"  and have the Black Legion, Lost and the Damned, and Ulthwe/Cadian Armoured list in it.  The idea being that if all the development work is done and nearly everything is along the lines of Swordwind it provides a product ready for publishing should GW choose to lend more support to the game.  I think the overall goal of most Epic players to get GW to provide the basic support needed for the game - firstly Citadel/Forgeworld miniatures followed by rules books.

Personally, I am not quite ready to push for the EA Tau list to be written in as 'completed'. I dont think that there is currently much of an advantage to doing so, and woudl rather that it gets the maximum playtest possible. Signing it off would be making a statement and inviting all sorts of 'this is broken' comments before its time.

Oh, and the Cadians get Whiteshield! How can you forget the Whitesheilds?  :D

Would Cadians be a large infantry army then? - Similiar to the Krieg List?

A Tau 'book' would probably be either a 'Taros Campaign' expansion or a 'Damocles Crusade' or 'Hive Fleet Kraken'.  I would be in favor of 'Hive Fleet Kraken'.  This would me that the book could have Tyranids, Tau, and Iyanden (I do not think Imperial army would be needed).  So books that should be developed if SG wants to publish more -

"Black Crusade" - an Epic Expansion containing background for the 13th Black Crusade and rules for Black Legion Chaos Space Marines, The Lost and the Damned Chaos Hordes, and Cadian Imperial Guard Shock Regiment*.

"Hive Fleet" - an Epic Expansion containing background for Hive Fleet Kraken, its break up at Iyanden, and the paths of its splinter fleets and rules for Tyranid Hive, Tau Hunter Cadres, and the Ghost Warriors of Iyanden.

*Not sure if that is exactly what would go there.

Well, don't bet the farm on anything yet ... like I said, I'm hoping to see "New" Chaos models and even the old ones for you boyz who don't hav'm !  But ... after 16+ years of my relationship with G/W ... anything can happen ... So let's hope for the best but be prepared for ... ???  And I'm pretty sure that in the future, DRM will probably be doing Chaos-like Dopplegangers ... so even if all you get is the G/W Infantry sprue ... there is some hope ... :)

Apologies if this sounds arrogant, but I think a Krieg list would actually go quite well with the Chaos lists, due to the upcoming ForgeWorld Imperial Armour 5 book, which will include Chaos & Krieg as the main opponent.

Along those lines:

'Black Legion' could contain BL, LATD & a Krieg list.

'Taros' could contain Tau, Tau Human Aux, an Armoured Regiment list (Several fought on Taros), and the Elysian Drop Troops list.

'Hive Fleet' could have Tyranids, Ianden (Due to their historic connection with the 'nids) and also another Imperial List (Cadians perhaps? Or a non-codex Marine Chapter known to have had dealing with the Tyranids?).


Rule of thumb... you always need at least one Imperial list per book. :D
