I think the key here, that really tells you this is fraud is the catagory when coupled with the description.

A "naive dad", may have poor spelling and grammer (the people on this forum are not representative of the average person).  He will however use the information in front of him to place the auction.

Clearly, he would not select the "Epic" catagory if something on the package hadn't prompted him to.  There are better options.  It would therefore have to be Epic items.  Yet he didn't include that information in the description.  If you truly didn't know anything about it, you would want to list it as the package reads.

If you look at Epic packages, they don't say "Warhammer 40K", they say "Epic" or "Epic 40,000".  Even 40k stuff doesn't say "40k", so you'd have to know something to list it that way.

It was put in the Epic catagory for a reason, the fact that the word Epic doesn't appear in the description shows it's BS.

Good point, Bombot, but I would actually expect a "naive dad" to use proper written English.

I agree, but there are only so many ways he can pretend he's dumber than he is.  And that's what he's doing - it's the classic modus operandi of the con artist.

Yeah, fraud...Terrence Stephens strikes again.  Any of our UK members tried reporting these items under the "missleading title or description" category?

The link no longer works. Were the items sold or withdrawn?
As for this being 'Fraud'.. I think youd have a tuff time proving it as the item were listed in the Epic section.
I cant rightly remember the item discriptions but didnt they just say 'ForgeWorld ThunderBolt' etc?
Leaving out the word 'Epic' doesnt amount to fraud if the item were listed in the Epic section, although personly Im sure the intent was there.
If however the discription said 'WH40K' or simular then that is clearly a fraudulent discription.
The lesson here would be to make sure you read all the infomation given and double check it, then if your still unsure, message the seller... or in this case... dont bid at all.
Due to the lame story given I would say this is oviously an intent to committ fraud.
But who is he trying to fraud? Anyone one who has bidded an excessive amount on any of these items has oviously thought 'oh good... these some poor sucker who doesnt know the value of his items... lets rip him off'
If the story was true... and the item were 40K... Im sure his son would not be best please to find his dad had sold his 40K FW models for ?5 each!
But then with that said... the story doesnt hold weight as surely his son would have given him a minimum price to sell them for.

This is the reply I got from him -

best i can do is give the size of the box wich is about 4 inches across by 7.5 inches long (still sealed up)there are no clear markings as this was bought along with other models at the time and came imn a larger box sorry this is the best i can do please do not bid if you are in any way unsure as no offence will be taken many thanks and happy bidding (p.s i will send out in this box to the winner)

Interestingly his account has been killed just after this and all auctions removed.  :D

Two of the auctions specifically stated 40k in the title however the rest just said Forgeworld.  I suspect they got pulled for the 40k ones...

Then how come Terence Stephens aka randomnessone is still seemingly getting away with it?  I noticed just after Christmas he was up to his usual tricks, with 'this model is epic scale' buried way, way, way, way down some where in the small print (blink & you'll miss it).

I keep checking his feedback to see how many people are unhappy with his purchases; and it's surprisingly few; those that have seem to have had it turned back on them, as it looks like when they return the miss-listed item & leave negative feedback, he refunds their money THEN reports them for non-payment of an item; so the feedback gets removed  ???

This unscrupulous individual seems to know how to use eBay regs to carry on getting away with his con.  It does frustrate me, even if I'm not effected by it, it's just so wrong

Well as I said... people should read the item discription fully before bidding.
I know what you mean though, there are sellers out there that purposely put important information in the small print hoping to boost the price of the item.
The best one Ive ever seen is someone selling an X-Box 360 poster.
This was back before the X-Box360 had been released outside of japan. The item discription was very long, I expect it had been cut n pasted from a promo, and right at the end it stated the acualy item was a poster.

The best that I heard of was a 'Space Marine box' (I dont think that it was actually Space Marines, but you get the idea) that was only the box!
