Hi. Now that the EpiComp is all over bar the shouting, I wanted to turn my attention to the next thing.

When I moved these boards over, I decided to split the year into three, four month periods. EpiComp takes one, GothiComp takes another, and aToTW is the third for BattleComms.

My suggestion is that we take the previous 'Tale of Epic Gamers' and expand it, relaxing the rules a bit.

We have four months, in which each participant is able to spend 25 GBP (or equivalent from their own currency) to buy and paint miniatures. All unspent money can be carried over, all miniatures bought in the month must be painted in the month, and all miniatures must be put towards one force for one game - but the participant can select any force from any game they want. This would start on January 1st 2007, and would (obviously) need to be logged on these boards - I will create a dedicated area.

So, what do you guys think of the plan?
Who would be interested in participating?
What force and what game would you select?
Any other comments?

Sounds like a good idea to me - I need an excuse to start a Warmaster army.

Sounds like a great idea, CS. I particularly like opening it up to all games. I'm not making any promises, but I'll try to participate, at least in spirit if I don't get time to post pics.

I guess I'll go with Squats, possibly with Khazari reinforcements.

Er... now the question is can we use Ebay and other more dubious suppliers? Can we trade abilities for goods as long as all the painting is done in the month period? for ?25 dollars, I could get a 6k army.

I'd participate as I'm about to purchase some stuff, but might have an issue getting a game together. Depends on whether or not I can sweet talk the wife into a game instead of keeping up with what the boyz have destroyed most recently.

Sarge, you don't actually play the game; you merely buy the minis for any game you wish and paint them.

For those who aren't sure, the spending limit of 25 pounds per month is based on the retail price. For things that are OOP, I believe you would approximate what a similar minis costs brand new.

D'oh! *smacks forehead*

Completely misread that part.  Guess that's what I get for trying to do three things at the same time.  In that case, I'm sooo in.  I'm going to be splitting my purchases between DRM and CH over the next couple months anyway so I'll pick one and post 'em up.  I'll probably go with the DRM Andrayada, but the medium and heavy tanks from the CH line are soooooo tasty lookin'......

Sounds good, but I'm not sure which force to go for.  Or even which game!  I guess I have a while to decide.

Great to hear such a positive response.

For those new to this, it is something that we have run a couple of times in the past, but with all participants buiding a force for the same game. This time, that rule goes.

The idea is to show how a force can built quickly, and without taking out a second mortgage. While it is great to actually play games with it, the focus is on buying and painting a force. The final force must be 'tournament ready' and cost of miniatures is calculated as if you were buying the closest possible relevant miniature for new. So, if you buy a Defiler for Chaos Epic (not currently released) by getting a Land Raider from eBay, the total cost is of a pack of Land Raiders from GW - no matter what you actually paid for it. This stops the ellusive 'entire Marine battalion from eBay for 3 GBP' situation, and allows those new to the hobby to recreate your force if they want to - knowing that it is possible.

Hmm, ok, so if I'm using DRM which doesn't have it's own rules published yet do I just pick a game system and run with it as far as determining tournament legality?

Good point. I would say that you have two main options. Either you could use a different force for a different game - for example use the Epic Armageddon force list to create Necrons using Andrayada, or you could use create a reasonably balanced force ready for when the army list is developed for them.

I think I'll go the "reasonably balanced" route.  Because I'm lazy and that's easier and because I tend to build lists that way anyway.

Hmm.  I saw this as an opportunity to beef up my 'DRM Krays as Xlan' force.  Or are we only allowed to work on officially recognised E:A armies?
