Hornby are considering buying at least parts of Humbrol/Airfix, I wonder what parts will go and which will stay!

When I were a wee lad Airfix was about all you did in winter, now there's so many options (mostly involving a computer), let's face it, it's very much a niche market now, one for us nerdy types

Just read in the paper that Hornby did indeed buy Airfix yesterday for ?2.6 million, including Humbrol paints and other bits.  Apparently they're thinking of moving production to the far east, and introducing snap-together kits to the existing ranges.

2.6 million isn't much... I wonder how much debt they took on!

This is at least the second time that "Airfix" has gone bust and been bought out and ressurected.  Those old molds will soldier on somewhere  :)

Airfix's problem was that its mould were old.  They never seemed to have the capital to invest in new ones.  I brought a 1:600? scale WWII battleship the other day (can't remember which one) for the guns, and their is almost no deatil on them.

Even when I collected their 1:72 range (back in the day) other comapnies produced better kits.
