To jazz it up a bit more, scan a pic from a WWII book of a broken city, or a WWI Frnace battlefield and superempose him over the top. Would look very cool. I think you might want to give him an Imperial medal as well. Nice work though BL

I think BW would have added to the flavour of the pic. I think you need something a bit further away to highlight him as the focal point of the picture.

I he is in B/W then he would loose the red color of his had which is a hallmark of commissars. In B/W he would look like some strange SS-officer.

How is this?
Not to sure what about the ironm-cross around his neck. It's too big to modify it to obvisoulsy (eg you would see that it isn't real if there where another medal)

Looks good mate, cant say what to do with the medal. Maybe add some script accross it like For Krieg & the Emperor or something to give it that 41st millenium look.
