I'm glad I've bit my tongue a lot of times.  I'd hate to be the reason for coining the phrase 'pedestrian rage'.  See enough drivers running the red light just as you're crossing, and it doesn't seem too far-fetched. :p

I know what you mean, Vermis. Like my states (and countries), Connecticut has a law that states vehicles must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. On more than one occasion an inconsiderate/oblivious driver has nearly hit me.

One of the rules I live by when I walk is that regardless of the laws, I do what keeps me safe. If that means giving up my "rightaway" to some jerk, I do it.

As my father said; "No point in having a head stone saying 'He died defending his right a way'.

In my case, it's not always a matter of yielding the right of way. I've been almost hit when I was halfway across the street.

I figure I walk like I ride motorcycles. I do so 100% in defensive mode.  :)

But you are right, there are a lot of Jerks out there and each is looking to spend time in Jail for assault or even manslaughter. My job is to not let me be the victim.

Anytime you venture out of the house in anything, you should be in 'defensive' mode....

That is, until they legalize vehicle mounted weaponry and pedestrian AT-missiles...

:p

...somebody earlier in this thread mentioned something about not being able to change others. In this thread that would particularly mean drivers and their "bad" choices when driving. I'm glad that was said and read by me,man has that saved me alot of anger over the last week. I'm not going to mention all the situations that transpired on the road about me since reading that,it would just be unbeleivable. Anyways that is true we should accept the ilk that is driving on the roads and hope that when close calls arrive on our doorsteps, that we will deal with it in an acceptable manner. Remember if you drive or walk,it is a question of "when" not "if"...

I'm taking driving lessons at the moment (soon to progress from pedestrian rage to proper road rage :p), and my teacher often has something to say about sticking to the rules, keping a sharp eye out for those who don't, and not to end up like them - usually when we have a brush with 'those who don't'.  The most recent example, during this week's lesson, being a transport lorry pulling out of a T-junction a few metres in front of us...
