If you are on any orders besides First fire, and are contacted into close combat. Can you do one fire at the assaulting detachment?

I think that only units on first fire can fire at unit that is charging them.  You can either do this in the first fire phase or as a snap fire attack.

This is the correct answer. Makes charging troops on first fire a risky prospect.  :)

Thanks fellas. I was really unsure if you were an activated and moved detachment (such as an "advance" order) was able to fire on a detachment that charged them, before any close combat...

Hi!

As others have stated, this is the correct interpretation.
