Had me a Mini Special Porject Day this evening.
Wanted to share what I got done. As I said on another thread, My local FLGS was selling off some Old Glory Stock and I bought a pack of 120mm Mortars from them. The bag has both the "read for fire" and the "ready to tow" version. I figure I would mount the towed version so I could make it look as if it was being towed by any vehicle I want.
For those who do not know what the 120mm mortar looks like here is a photo of it in action:

First thing I did was file a small amount off the tires of the towed version. This would allow me to glue them down better.
I have circled the spot in red. You will see it is not much.

By doing so, you can see they almost stand up on their own:

Next I gathered up the stuff I wanted for the Firing Mortars.
Just a side note: I am being drawn more and more to the modular idea of vehicle/heavy weapons/other stuff for my armies. So I wanted to base these in such a way as to allow them to be used by anyone I wanted.

I started with the Mortars themselves. They were a little tricky because they were in three parts and it was not a clean ?pin and hole? assembly.

Next I added such things as the empty trailer, a box of ammo, and on one I added a tossed aside camo net.
Here is the first one done:

Here is one with a sample crew. As you can see, the layout allows me to use any figures from any of my armies and Bam, they have a heavy mortar squad or platoon.

As a Bonus, I also found a batch of small figures that I just had to base as seperate items so I could add them anywhere I wanted to.
Do you remember the old Striker Box Art from the Traveller line?
It had a commander doing a breifing using a "Field Battle Computer". In the equipment book it explained it was a combo satalite uplink, map, and tactical planner. The whole thing folded up to a small back pack sized unit for carry and storage. I always liked the idea.
For those who may never have seen the artwork, here it is:

Well, I found a small handful of the miniature 15mm version Martian Metals made for Striker.
I based them on a half inch by half inch and that way I can just add them to a squad, or a base like the mortar stands above. Wham, they are hih tech with a Battlefield Computer.

						Great work Dafcra!
Are these mortars used for your sci-fi armies.  The low tech ones...
