You could make them so that vehicles get 5+ save against hits, if they make the save then the shield managed to completely deflect the blast harmlessly, and the shield stays up with no damage. If they fail the save, shield goes down and the next shield tests against the next hit. If you did that you'd probably want to make them very small in number, though.

I don't even think we need to go that far. Note the 'counts in cover' is more to do with Nightshields than Shadhowfields. I think 'added' effects could (and if at all: should) easily be accomodated in two places first of all:
- Reinforced Armour - Thick Rear Armour
Clearly they've not much 'proper' armour, but additional shields and fields could easily simulate the effect. Vect's Dais for instance, has armour 14 in everything except CC, I don't see a problem with similarly heavy, but otherwise open topped and flimsy, vehicles having a strangely high armour value.

We had thrown around the idea of a distance related field that would be a -1 to hit at 30cm or more, -2 at 60cm, etc. It never came about because we couldn't agree on the mechanics (and I believe it was referred to as 'fiddly').
Keep in mind that -above all- we tried to keep the special rules succinct and to a minimum. In this we have succeeded since there are no more special rules than there are for the Eldar. If we adjust the shields on the DE it will be a good idea to have the rules as easy to understand as possible.

Just use the Void Shield rules. Simply say that the shields can come back up as per void shields. That's really all you need. It essentially means that each turn until someone actually hits the titan, it counts as in-cover. Simplistic, easy to understand, and it works with existing rules.

We were steering away from Void shields for fluff reasons, but I can't remember them now for the life of me. Check out the old threads if it is of interest.
As it turns out, we are bumping the Tormentor to 5+ RA, so I think Shadowfield changes will not be occuring. New list to come out very soon.
