Glad it worked out. I look forward to hearing and seeing how all the things go for our days.

Just a suggestion, take photos of the finished projects and post them when I start the thread for our postings. Join in the fun at that time with photos.

Either way, glad you had a good time.

Will it be a separate thread then?  I'm sure they'll still have the stuff, I may even photograph it this week.

I was thinking of two threads when I started this one. This thread for the "build up" and then make a new thread for the photos. If you want to shoot photos this week, I can create the new thread at that time. Just send me a PM or email and I will do so ASAP. Or feel free to post photos on this thread. What ever works for you!

Hi all,

after my latest hiatus from gaming (real life getting in the way, again!), I have returned and begun painting my Legends of the Old West minis. I have all the models I need, but no terrain! So I figure I'll join in the fun for this project weekend and set myself the challenge of building a wild west town. :D

I have a large bundle of balsa wood, and some paper templates that I should be able to use as a guide, so I'm all set. Hopefully I'll have enough minis finished by then for a game too. :D

Cheers,
Duncan aka Freshmetal

Sounds like a great project Freshmetal.

I just got a weighty box of 15mm GZG figures. So, cleaning, priming and base coating 4 Wombat II APCs, 18 NSL power armour, 24 NSL infantry, 12 NSL light infantry and 12 grey aliens (maybe - the aliens are a much lower priority). They are a perfect match for my 6mm NSL/IG troops, except the APCs are very different.

This weekend is already busy for me. The local Ubuntu release party tonight, and the Disc Golf club day tomorrow.

Sounds wonderful tchristney.

Just curious, are you using the Wombats for the NSL or for another army?

I was so glad he did the Wombat. It has always been a nice looking vehicle.

Yeah, I'm using the Wombats for the NSL. Now I just need the Deimos grav tank and the AV6 transport VTOL to match my 6mm NSL forces. :D

All of my 6mm stuff is already painted, but alas, I have not the adversary to send downrange :;):

Just curious, in the photos it seems like the Wombat is kind of small (short) next to the trooper. What is your take now that you have one in hand?

Yeah, there is not much headroom, and I wouldn't want to be in the back with a dude in power armour

I reckon Jon should have made it a bit taller, but it is still more believable than the first two versions of the Epic Thunderhawk :;):

I'm going to use it with a complement of eight - driver, commander and six in the troop compartment. There are six obvious troop doors on the roof so the troops can egress quickly. Also just happens to nicely match the squad size that comes in the SG code packs...

Thanks, I thought that was what I was seeing. Jon makes his vehicles small. I have one of his old APCs and it is very small.

I will have to rethink my desire to have some. The size differance will put me off somewhat. Maybe I need to stick to the Tanks. :;):

The troops are a bit chunky too - Jon's figures are a bit big by 15mm standards. Also, if you compare the Wombat II to a modern BMD-3 (just the hull not including the ground clearance) you might be surprised by how similar they are. A BMD-3 is ~2.25 m to the top of the turret. When you look at the pictures, it is hard to believe that seven men are airdropped inside those things. So, if you assume that things like power plants are smaller in the future, then I would say the scale is at least believable. No where near as decadently roomy as a Bradley though.

For sure there is no way the PA troops would fit though.

>>The troops are a bit chunky too ?

I agree, but because I mix them with my Old Citadel 15mm figures they are about the same ?Style? and thus fit in better with my existing collection.

Yes, I imagine you are correct. I just look at it and think ?How Small?, but to be fair you are right. We did a similar thing with some of the other minis. Compared them to real world vehicles and were trying to find how they stood.

>>No where near as decadently roomy as a Bradley though.

True, but then even the Bradley was small next to Jon?s 25mm Phalanx APC.  :;):

In any case, love the look and once it is painted up it will look nice.

One other thought, if it were mounted slightly above the ground then that would give the illusion of it being taller as well. Between the base height and the gap between the base and the APC. Anyway, just a thought.

I had thought the same thing. Because it is an ACV, I'll have to be very careful about making it too high off the ground. My 6mm grav tanks are mounted on a small nut on top of a piece of clear styrene sheet. You can't see the nut but it raises them up about 3-4 mm. That much height works for a grav tank but would negate the ground effect for an ACV. I'll play around to try to make it work.
