Most Americans just use it as a day off to eat and drink too much ... But I won't forget ... at work today (we're opened limited hours; 8-4), most won't even notice. History Channel is showing Band of Brothers ... again ... Worth watching over ...

No, you are not alone.
We, as a family, had a moment of silence for those who have served.
Maddy even remembered to say thank you to God for the "Military People" in her prayer tonight.

Quote (Legion 4 @ 29 May 2006 (22:04)) | Well, I'm glad at least your family remembered ... many thanks ! | Oh I am sure I am not the only family who remembered. May feel that way at times, but I am sure others remember the service others have given. I know my father, a WWII vet, made sure I understood what others had done for me and mine.

I actually lost a good friend in Iraq. He helped me move when I got into the area (my Wife is military) and got me started on the proper way to play IG. He also gave me a bunch of stuff including a FW Earthshaker Platform, a dual-action internal mix airbrush, and most of his spare guardsmen. That's part of the reason I held the terrain day yesterday. I also donated a small compressor and inexpensive airbrush to our gaming store. I dunno if that makes sense to anyone else...

Yesterday my town had its annual Memorial Day parade. Vets ride in the parade and everyone claps for them as a way of thanking them. After the parade is a ceremony that pays respect to the town's residents who have died in combat by naming them individually.
Even though the population of my town is at least quadruple what it was during the Civil War, more town residents died during the Civil War than all other wars put together. I know this is the case for the US as a whole, but I was a little surprised that it was the case for my town, which even now only numbers about 15,000 residents.
Needless to say, I am among those who remember what Memorial Day is all about.
