Hi all,

Couple of quick questions regards the Squat forces in Second edition rules -

1 - Can Thunderfires attack ground units.  It seems to imply that the Snap Fire option is secondary weapon usable if a flier goes into line of sight.  So I'm making the assumption that it can fire at ground units and is very much like the old German 88mm.

2 - Can the berzerker battlecar be used to hold a differing unit of troops instead of the berzekers?  E.g. can I leave the berzerkers on an objective at the start of the game then put thunderers in the battlecar?

2a - If so can they all fire from the battlecar as is implied with the berzerkers?  Extra 15 attack dice per turn per berzerker battlecar!!

2b - Does the order counter for the Land Train count for the unit in the battlecar? Or does it need a seperate order?

My initial feelings are -

1 - Yes AA and AG.
2 - Yes
2a - Yes
2b - Seperate order required.

For what it's worth :D , I agree with your answers to 1, 2 and 2a. For 2b, I think that the unit in the battlecar only gets a separate order counter when it is disembarked from the battlecar.

Thanks Dwarf Supreme.

I was hoping to have my land train advance forward for a couple of turns with the thunderers on first fire, then sit in the middle of the board on first fire for the last couple of turns...

I'll have to see what Primarch thinks as he's another rules oldie!  :D Plus it would be useful for NetEpic clarification.

Glad I could be of service.

I've always played that Thunderfires can fire at ground targets and Berserkers get their own order counter after they hop off the Land Train.

However, it never occured to me to have something else get on the Battlecar. What a great idea! I really like the idea of embarking a unit of Thunderers onto the Battlecar. Thunderers are nasty enough by themselves, but to have them protected by void shields makes them even nastier.   I'll have to remember that trick next time a play.

Hi!

1. Yes thunderfires can shoot at ground units.

2. Sure why not? Its a transport like anything else and netepic introduced rules where transports are not stuck following their cargo around needlessly.

2a. A Megagargant and Emperor Titan can do this too, so its not unprecedented. Of course you'll make the land train a yummy targets full of VPs....

2b. Separate orders. Netepic core rules already cover this.

Thanks Primarch.

1 - That is really useful as I now have some serious anti tank weapons, umm 6 thunderfires at a range of 125cm.  Very nice, bye bye tanks!

2 - Excellent that makes a bit more sense.

2a - Oh yeah the old garrison type rules where the Emperor could have heavy Adeptus Mechanicus infantry inside it.  Forgot about that.

I guess I'll have to stay away from gargants and vortex missiles!  :D Does help that it's lots of components rather than just one model though.  Plus 9 void shields to get through if there is the full 7 battlecars! Two lots of thunderers in first fire stage and I really wouldn't want to take it on...

2b - Cool that makes my plan a lot easier.  Land train on advance, thunderers on first fire.

Hi!

Gargants are notoriously difficult to blow up. Its due to the lack of a plasma reactor and such. While the ammo is attractive it has a good save and it is a very narrow field on the template.

Gargants are the only titan I have seen that can consistently survive vortex missiles.

I was extremely lucky in my time playing Epic as I only really ever ran into three opponents who used Gargants the majority of the time.

I soon learnt to avoid the belly gun after that Andy Chambers / Jervis Johnson battle in White Dwarf.

Just there presense on the battle field means you have to be careful where you deploy your super heavies. One shot kill weapons such as the belly burster ball round and the void missile are exteremely difficult to defend against.
