A Few Questions for those who are part of formal game clubs who have space rented.

1: How many members did it take to make having a dedicated space a viable option?

2: How did you structure the fees or dues?

3: What kind of "rent coverage" plan did you have in place if people did not pay?

4: How did you agree who had keys etc?

5: How do you schedule, if you do, use of the room/tables?

Any input would be helpful.

1 - around 15 regulars and a few non-regulars, for a garage with toilet and space for 4 4x4 tables and a single 8x4 table.
2 - membership in a club paid annually; payment to use tables by non-members; income from sales of GW models as authorised dealers - the profits were shared betewwn the club, and a core committee who had invested in the stock.
3 - The place was rented half-yearly, and if the club committee noticed an incipient deficiency, they would just have folded the club. In the end, it merged with a larger club in which members were asked to voluntarily donate LM100, which would also give them a share in club ownership. The details were always unclear, and that, together with the fact that we had several young (14-ish) club members who would probably not have been able to fork out that sort of money, made me drop out.
4 - the club core committee had keys, and together with the elected committee made sure that each games afternoon (twice a week + Saturday mornings) one of the committee members would be around; there were also a handul of senior members (self included) who were entrusted to open if none of the committee members could make it.
5 - very simply, we had a booking sheet which was filled in by players concerned, on afirst come first serve basis. As mosst games could fit easily on the 4x4s, we rarely had problems. Priority was given to club tournaments when these were on.

So - crude, far from perfect, but it worked for 3 or 4 years, and it was fun while it lasted.
