I'm way past the need for things to be "official". I guess that's what happens when one of your favorite games keeps getting the axe. ? [/quote] Exactly. ?It is just getting the other gamers out there to realize that. ?To me official is what you are personally playing. ?It doesn't matter what the rest of the wrold is using. ?If you and your friends are having fun then that is all that matters.

Quote (nealhunt @ 09 May 2006 (15:33)) | There are no GW drop pods, only the FW models, and it is a standard option in the SM Codex. | Ermm, I just got 2 blisters of Drop pods from GW delivered to my local GW store so you can get them

Quote (CyberShadow @ 09 May 2006 (07:38)) | Quote (Hena @ 08 May 2006 (19:31)) | I think that to them the official means that new players can get hold of the minis. |
That is fair enough, but it is sending out a negative message. A GW sanctioned event, does not allow L&D forces because the list is 'fan based'. This may mean that there are no minis available for it, but the implication is that the list is somehow a 'secondary list' - and so what does this tell the organisers of other events like this?
As for Tau being OK... well that is only half the battle, since there are also Tyranids and Necrons, but since SG have publicly stated that FW releases should not be included in SG core lists, I dont think that this will make much difference.
The question here is: If SG are unable to release (for example) a full range of Tyranid minis, does this mean that the list will never be more than 'fan based' and partially unrecognised at all future official tournaments? | Hi!
Good points.
Your probably correct in that is what GW wants you to think. An army list that doesnt have a related available line of minis is perhaps something they DO want people to see as "secondary". After all there is no money for GW from a list were minis are unavailable or not easily obtainable.
So I do agree from GW's point of view such list will get "second class citizen" treatment.

Quote (wraeththu @ 09 May 2006 (09:42)) | What is amusing to me is that right now the L&D, CSM and Tyranid models are all equally available from GW (as in not at all). ?So shouldn't all those lists be removed from the tournament. ?Each of the lists right now have units that GW has never made.
I am just taking it all in stride. ?Like I said on the SG forum none of this is a surprise to me. ?At least I have a L&D list that I can play with in my own games be it "official" or not.
-Audrey | Hi!
Which has been my point for a long time.
You make the lists, you test the lists, you play with the list, you have fun with those list....
...so what do you need GW?
...minis? Sure....
...but if they arent forthcoming does it mean you lists and efforts are meaningless?
I dont think so.

-Audrey | Yes, that is it in my mind. What you and the folks you play agree too.
I like to ko what Official is so I know a starting point, but I do not feel linked or obligated to remain fully on that starting point.

I dont think so. | Thank you Primarch. I think that GW has done a great job of getting people to see anything that is not "First Class" as meaningless.
We need to remember that if you have fun playing at the club/store/game room and the players agree, who cares where the minis come from.
I have in one box a batch of Modern Soviet BMP-1s that I used as a Chimera Company in one of my first playtest games. I have them still because I love them and they will always be there for me to pull out.
Same goes for the lists. If you and your friends agree to a list, then it has meaning and is good to go!

You tell 'em, L4!
As I've been involved with Net Epic from version 1.0 on I think I've kinda grown accustomed to being "un-official".

Not that I totally disgree with you guys (I for one would be more than happy to play with/against an unofficial Chaos list that combined CSM & L&TD so long as using it to play a themed army- e.g. adding Banelord and 'Zerkers to a Khornate L&TD army).
But if you have a very strong and regular gaming group it is easy to take that approach. Where having some sort of GW "official stamp of approvalness" is useful is when you play more casual pick up and play games, especially against new club members.
Lets face if you went to a new gaming club for the first time are you going to feel more comfortable playing against an opponent who has an army list straight out of pre-printed supplement or an army list written in pencil that he pulls out of his back pocket that he has "modified"?
Cheers
James

James | I agree, and if I had even one "club" within 100 miles of me it might matter. But it does not. There are a few others within driving distances and that is it. So if I meet a new player, and I have to spend a few moments talking about how we play and what rules we want to use. So be it. It will just give me some time to get to know them and them to know me.
