OK. Just got back. A really good one this year, and the new venue is much better.

I spent way too much! I finally picked up a fair amount of DRM stuff (16 packs in total!). I will get this assembled as quickly as I can. I also got to meet up with Paul, Doug and James, and chat about DRM.

I also picked up Babylon 5 - Call to Arms. It looks interesting. I asked about the Babylon 5: War Without End, but this will be a few more weeks and was not quite ready for Salute.

Do you know in all of the excitement of talking to Matt Sprange about B5 RPG / ACTA I completely forgot to ask him about War Without End. Then again it grabs my interest the least out of any B5 product.

Glad that DRM seems to be taking off even better than expected/hoped for. Go Doug go!!!

I bought way too much stuff- I needed help carrying the lead/figures in comfort cases to my car. Then again I was buying stuff for several of my local Legion club members.

As well as DRM picked up B5 2nd Edition rulebook (very nice indeed) and ordered some ACTA fleet books/ships, Slaughterloo 2nd Edition rulebook and Dog Mountain Guns, a load of half price Silent Death spaceship blisters, an Am-Rep fleet from Brigade Models and a new NAC fleet from GZG.

Last night I glued together some of the new NAC ships from GZG- they are some seriously nice spaceships. Wonderful detailing and a very coherent looking fleet right the way from Corvettes and Frigates all the way up to Superdreadnoughts and Fleetcarriers.

Cheers

James

Hi Iain,

Quote (CyberShadow @ 26 April 2006 (14:01))
Hi Maksim. I had very little exposure to the game, besides what I had read here. However, I have a number of 6mm game rules already, and the recent discussion of Full Thrust made me want to branch out a little more.

I like Full Thrust. It works and it's easy to add house rules to the mix to adjust to your own liking.

And there are a ton of FT variants out there... Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, etc., etc.

Quote (CyberShadow @ 26 April 2006 (14:01))
Call to Arms is expensive (which almost put me off completely!) and very similar to BFG, but it seems interesting. I will give it a read through.

ACTA is too expensive for my blood too. If it wasn't that my friend Eric bought it, I wouldn't be playing it. Having said that, the system is good. My biggest constructive cruiticism is that some of the factions are not fully balanced yet.

Quote (CyberShadow @ 26 April 2006 (14:01))
I was disappointed that 'War Without End' was not available.

Me too.

I've booght up some of the models with the idea that I can pit my GROPOS against my Star Wars against my MWDA minis.

Does anyone have links to information or reviews?

Download Signs & Portents Magazine #31 Wargamer from the Mongoose site. It has a preview of the game.

And check out my friend. Eric's site:

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi M/S

I would echo what you've said about both Full Thrust and A Call To Arms. I am willing to forgive Mongoos much about ACTA given the fact that it is B5. But I am disapointed that they have n't got the basic ships & factions balanced yet, even after A Sky Full Of Stars and revised basic rulebook and Tournament Lists....

Basically they got the factions balanced for a campaign setting and then tried to get them balanced for a tournament/pick-up-and-play setting by changing many of the ships basic stats. I told Matthew Sprange politely that I thought Mongoose had got that completely arse about tit.

Mongoose should have brought out rules and stats that were balanced for tournament/pick-up-and-play games and then, without radically having to change the ship stats, make them balanced for campaign play by changing campaign rules such as reinforcements/repair etc.

Until they get that sorted out I can't see myself persuading friends to go out and buy new game. Its a shame because Mongoose inehrited some lovely minatures from AoG and, with the exception of the new Drakh ships, have made some very nice models to expand the different factions.

Mongoose will be releasing Armageddon in August 2006, which Matthew Sprange told me will fix 95% of the current problems of ACTA (including the Vorlons + Shadows being underpowered and Minbari + ISA being overpowered) and that ACTA Version 2 (due out in summer 2007) will fix the remaining 5%.

Personally I will keep the ships that I've already bought for ACTA, hopefully apinting them slowly in between more pressing gaming projects, and aim to have basic painted fleets ready for Earth Alliance and Centauri by the time ACTA 2nd Edition comes out.

I will buy Armageddon when it comes out in August simply because it is B5 and will feature the Ancients, but otherwise won't get into it seriously until ACTA 2nd Edition.

By contrast I liked the look of both Full Thrust and Starfleet Armada X, both of which I picked up at Salute. I can't face learning two new sets of rules, especially for similar games, so I will probably give one or other a go.

Of the two I am most tempted by Full Thrust, mainly due to the respective model ranges but also due to the way that so many fans have customised it for Star Wars/BSG/B5.

Cheers

James

I have always liked GZG stuff. I have a small NAC fleet myself.

EDIT: In order not to Hijack this thread, I have moved my questions over to a new thread.

Wargame Insomniac (and anyone else who wants to) can you go to the new thread to answer my questions.

Thanks

That is a good picture. And yes, he does look quite happy!

On a side note, what happened to the missing stock, did they find it?

The normal search system turned up nothing
The Supervisor I got looking turned up nothing
UPS Internal security - you guessed it - turned up nothing!
So I had yet another long phone call to UPS, in which I may or may not have said that I was treating this as serious theft and would be getting the proper authorities involved to see justice done.

And Who'd have thought it..

24 Hours later I get a call from them say it was, quote "Miraculously been found in one of our sorting offices".

It has now been delivered in its completion.

I'm now just working through the barriers trying to get my Money back for the shipment, although I'm not hopeful to gain any kind of compensation for the 14 working hours I spent trying to sort this matter up.

Personally, UPS wont ever see a penny of my money again unless they do a DAMN good job making things right.

Ahem, Rant over...

Glad youlike the picture - sorry I didnt get any closer ones of the cabinet, but all thenew models I painted for display will be on my site by monday, along with approximately 100 other photos on show of recent commissions & projects!

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear that UPS is still up to their high standard as always. (Note the very thick sarcasm ?:;): ?)

As for the new photos, I am looking forward to them. You know how I love my photos. ?

EDIT: To fix my quote to match TuffSkull's intent.

That might work, but just waiting for the pictures on Monday will work as well.  :p
