Yep, and Kroot have lost more than one battle when assaulting on my field - even when I thought the odds were in their favor. No armor hurts. It will be a tactical decision you'll have to wiegh. Simply busing Kroot in to assault a broken formation is not my idea of a tacitcally sound situation. After all - I could bus in crisis and have them shoot and kill the formation without risking the counter damage in the assault. Simply busing kroot in to hold an objective - well, that could be done just as easy by teleporting stealth or drone drop from Tiger shark. Now if they could assault an area and be effective where the normal Tau formations cannot - now they are doing something unique. Using the Orca to get them to that situation would then have its value to me. As previously noted, I have some reservations about the points of the Kroot formation that nobody really consistantly takes now as a tactical choice... and I have that reservation before we allow them the Orca. Losing a unit from the Kroot formation and keeping the points the same while allowing them to ride the Orca may just get them to the same battle that they were already going to lose - that much quicker. I don't know. It will have to be played out. We'll just have to see what value they bring to the table in Orca drop mode with one less unit. I'm always in favor of more options though. The point I was attempting to make is that, yes, other lists can also lose assaults, thus forfeiting the assaulting craft, but even the Ork boyz have a +6 save if I remember correctly, and the SM have +4. So, if the Kroot can line up an assault against a broken formation whilst being carried by the Orca, you might have a chance at striking a blow without suffering in return. However, what I really wanted to point out that just because Kroot get some wheels, er, turbofans, that ability doesn't turn them into an ace "all our assault problems are solved" formation. It just makes them more mobile and as Tactica pointed out, perhaps expedited their entry into an assault that they were going to lose anyway. I still think that their role is pretty much of a cheap garrison force and not much else. At this scale, they just don't bring a lot to the table. JMO... _________________ Honda "Remember Taros? ![]() I think that keeping the Tau and Kroot in separate formations is in keeping with the fluff on Tau attitudes towards the Kroot. I can imagine the Tau putting up with having Kroot in the same battleforce, but, I wouldnt imagine that Kroot would be adopted into the Fire Warrior Cadre structure. Having Kroot in such constant close proximity would probably have a deleterous effect on the Fire Warriors. Game-wise, why would you want to have a few unarmoured Kroot mixed with your Fire Warriors anyway? |
