Greetings all,

I am currently looking for a range of models that would make good mordian iron guard standins (the guys that fight in ceremonial dress) for an imp guard army?

I've had a look at a few 6mm american civil war and crimean war models, but either they have looked to be poor quality or the photos themselves are average to say the least.

Could anyone suggest a manufacturer/range to try or post a scale comparison if they own such models?

thankyou
ORTRON

Seems like the problem would be the cap. I believe your best bet would be the Japanese infantry figures from the Russo-Japanese war of 1905. Pendraken has some in 10mm, but no pictures of them on their site. Your best would be to email them to ensure they are in the cap. Then maybe get a few to see how they look compared to Epic.

Possibly the Ros-Heroics (Navwar) WW I (1914) British would suit your needs. They used the field cap also, but I am not sure if those miniatures have caps or helmets (they should be caps).

Heroics &  Ros might also make japanese 6mm or Russian 6mm with caps - just give them a buzz on saturday or e-mail them!

Didn't British infantry start WWI wearing brimmed caps like that?  Maybe a supplier with some early-war Tommies would be carrying those.

Yes, the first Brit Tommies wore caps like that during WWI. ?The Mordians were based on Prussian Infantry ... :o0  :8):

Thanks guys,

Joined the yahoo group.. some help there so thanks.

The problem i'm finding is a lot of retailers have very poor or no pictures of much of their range. One of the things i now realise GW does well in comparison.

Thanks again
ORTRON

I have found one possiblity. ? I got the idea when Legion 4 mentioned the Prussian infantry.

The Prussian army of 1812-1815 had many Landwehr units. ?These guys wore fatigue caps very similar to the modian style shown above.

Baccus make 6mm Prussina Landwher of this era. ?IT may work. ?While the fiures are all advancing in line it may very proper for the iron guard. ?

These skirmishing infantry may work better

My other thought is this. ?Would you be able to trim down the "tin hat" of the British tommy from WWII to leave only the brim on the front. ?given the appearance of the Iron guard cap.

This picture is from GHQ's WWII british infantry.

Well there are some ideas.

I actually just bought a few of them through your mate at Eureka miniatures.. haven't arrived yet.

Thanks very much for photos CC. I might look into the trimmed hat idea if i can't find any that fit goal/budget. The good thing with those guys is that their equipment/webbing looks more in line with what i want.

Thanks a heap guys

Like Cuban Commissar, I can recommend baccus miniatures 6mm Prussian Landwehr for conversion to Mordians, I did actually do 2 stands last year.

Pack NPR12 Landwehr skirmishing is the best IMHO. You need to file the cap down almost to the hatband to get the height match to a GW guardsman. Also the bases on the baccus figs are quite thick so they need to be filed down to match the depth of the holes on an epic base.

Also here is a pic of the Baccus Landwehr as they come from the manufacturer, compared to an GW epic guarsdmen, so you can see what you need to do.

I also sampled Heroics & Ros / Navwar 1914/1916 British with the field service cap. However as you can see form this picture they are pretty weedy compared to GW figures, so I stuck to Baccus!
