It also doesn't help that people don't tend to realize how the intermingling rules work until they get slammed. ?But as noted, once it happens, it rarely happens again.

While there might not be nearly as many historical instances of pickets causing panic when they retreat, there are dozens of famous examples where a battle line was outflanked and routing spread down the line as the flank crumbled. ?If you require 15cm from all intermingled formations, it will clearly stop such things from happening. ?I think that would be a bad thing.

Hear, hear! I agree whole-heartedly that the rule is not broken. Once bitten, twice shy; that's the solution.

But hey, I am not trying to discourage anyone from going to the rules committee. It's a free internet.

You're right that once it happens it would rarely happen again, unfortunately with new players I suspect that the reason may well be that they can't be bothered with such nonsense again. As you say it can be extremely brutal.

I think your attempts to draw an analogy from this situation to historical examples of flanks crumbling is extremely tenuous, and I think you would agree.

To quote your previous post about the scout intermingling distance 'I think this is a heiniously bad ruling'  :;):

Unlike many other problems, this loophole is easy to close (I think!) so why not just do it? We already have a long list of clarifications and amendments, to the point that Epic A 2 must be well on the cards in a few years - so lets try not to miss anything out just because it is 'yet another amendment'.
