With 2006 now upon us, I wonder if there is interest in the second Battlefleet Gothic painting competition. I would see this working in a very similar way to last year -
Rules here Gallery here
There was some discussion about a 'fleet' category last year, but this would add complication as it would require either a smaller picture to get more than one vessel in, or allowing more than one picture. I would prefer not to have a fleet category, but I would like opinions on this.
Last year, entries were emailed in, but with the expansion of GothiComms I would prefer to run the compatition like EpiComms, with entries posted directly here and then arranged into a gallery by me. This means that entrants would need to be members here.
Also, last year, we had two prizes. It was kept simple with an overall winner voted by the community (also to be done here) and then a conversion prize, judged by a couple of the Warp Rift crew. This seems a nice way to do it.
In conclusion, I would be very happy with running this very similar to last year, with the exception that it would be more centred here - with entries and voting done here.
The last issue is prizes. Last year, I provided one prize and Bob Henderson kindly produced a second. These were a single Battleship of any kind for any fleet, up to fifteen pounds, and ordered from GW MO to be delivered direct to the winner.
Does anyone have any additional inspiration or ideas for prizes this year?
Thanks.

Hi CS,
great idea on Gothicomp '06. Keeping it the same as last year is okay in my opinion. Just as the heat system.
A fleet category is a bit more difficult, I certainly like the more 1 ship or `1 escort squadron approach.
Does the rule: if you showed it before it may not participate still apply? (....heh heh....I must paint....).
On the prizes, maybe something from Forgeworld, dunno about money issue and how to raise such things.

I think that I would simply say that you cant enter any vessel which has been entered in last years competition.
As for prizes, thanks for the suggestions.

Regarding Battleships: I think since the Specialist Games Online Store Slaughterfest the prices have went to ?18/Battleship, so looks like Tiny Tim will have to settle for a Grand Cruiser this Christmas...
That aside, I'm inclined to say nay to the Fleet category as it's a bit much to attempt, but then I'm not really losing if I'm not competeting. See how many folks would say they'd compete, divide it by a hundred and you should have your number of entrants
Otherwise: Cool stuff!

I think a fleet category would be pretty cool. I always prefer looking at pics of ships painted to be part of a themed fleet rather than disparate single ships.
Perhaps have 1 overall Fleet pic and 1-2 pics of individual ships/squadrons from Fleet?
Cheers
James

SG probably would be fine about supporting the competition. Andy supported one similar on the Yahoo Group a while back, and Jervis seems open to the idea and has contributed greatly to previous EpiComps. The issue is that SG can be a bit difficult to get hold when it actually comes to delivering the prizes. I would like to avoid relying on them if possible.

Okay, the views turned me, a seperate fleet competition would be nice. Individual ships don't need to belong to the fleet. Just two seperate competitions?

As for prizes, maybe someone of the HA (or someone) else is willing to offer a Voss Prow Cruiser as a prize.
