I've been thinking upon the Harridan recently and trying to uinderstand its battlefield role and the role it fulfills now.
As a result I have come up with the following idea for the harridan
type ?speed ?armour ?closecombat ?firefight WE ? ?35cm ? ? 4+ ? ? ? ? ? 4+ ? ? ? ? ? ? 5+
Weapon ? ? ? ? ? ? range ? ? ? ? ? ? ? firepower ? ? ? ? note Montrous claws ? (base contact) ? Assault weapon ? ?+2 attacks MW Wing bio cannons ? ?45cm ? ? ? ? ? ?2x MW5+/AA6+ ? AA attacks are MW, forward arc
Notes: DC3, Synpase creature, reinforced armour, skimmer, fearless, brood mother - gargoyles, living shield gargoyles, teleport
Critical hit. Dead. ?The Harridan crashes to the ground 3D6cm away in a andom direction. ?Any model touching the base (where it crashes) suffers a MW5+ attack.
Brood mother A synapse creature that is a brood mother has an easier time creating a certain type of creature. ?In games play this is represented by it creating a free unit of that type (denoted after the - )whenever it spawns 2. ? For example: ?A creature is brood mother - gargoyles and spawns as its action. ?It gets 8 spawning points. ?It creates 5 garoyles and a carnifex. ?It also gets an extra 2 garoyles.
Living shield Some synpase creatures are noted as having living shields. ?This represents the shear number of that type of creature that it produces.
If a synpase creature with living shield has the creature denoted in the living shield rule in base to base contact with it, then that creature can be used to take damage instead of the synpase creature. ?The unit being used as a living shield gets no armour save, even if it would normaly be eligable.
However the living shiled can only save a single point of damage from any one source. ?Thus a weapon that has x X shots or TK(Dy, could still cause damage to the synapse creature
examples Using a Harridan with 6 Gargoyles in BtB A) A tank company sustains on the harridan causing 7 hits. ?The first 6 are allocated to the gargoyles which are removed the seventh hits the harridan, which gets to make a save as normal.
B) A shadow sword fires its volcano and hits. ?It causes 3 points of damage. ?The first hit destroys a gargoyle stand and the next two remove 2DC from the Harridan, with normal rolls for criticals
C) A reaver fires its two turbo lasers at the Harridan. ?One gets three hits and the other two. ?The first one removes a Gargoyle stand and lands two hits on the Harridan. ?The second one removes a gargoyle stand and lands one hit on the harridan
Reasoning I've remover the transport capacity and replace it with broodmother - gargoyle to represent tem carrying vast quantities of eggs and immature gargoyles within their belly, giving them an easier time spawning them.
It gains teleport to represent them dropping down from the spore clouds above.
Finally the living shield rule (needs cleaning up) to give them some survivability. ?The Harridans job is to sweep ahead of the main Tyranid forces, keeping the gargoyles in check. ?It can't do that if it can be picked out with easy, being a WE. ?Thus, now, its horde of gargoyles that it leads can soak up the incoming bullets. ?At the same time it isn't that great a shield, since the gargoyles can still be removed with AP fire first.
EDIT: changed AA to 6+ and removed random coding from the text.
