It would be nice to see a scan of such a letter/memo. With all those who hate GW , including many in the retial community, it seems odd if it has never been posted somewhere.

Hi!

Actually, I believe it was at some point, but mind you long ago, we are after all talking about something thats at least 7-8 years ago. But it was talked about a fair bit on the net back then and I'm pretty sure someone posted the text if not a scan. Wierder things have been posted on the net.

I doubt someone still has such a thing. I really feel sheepish for not hanging on to one back then. But then again there are a lot of things I SHOULD have hanged on too from those days.

What would have been a blast was to participate in one of those retailer seminars. At least by what the retailer conveyed they were pretty candid about how the product was to be marketed and to whom.

From my personal experience the discourage veterans was certainly very evident at that time back in the 90s.

Now I think things have changed slightly.

In the UK we now have veteran's evenings, Forgeworld and in some ways Fanatic.

I think retail is still aimed at the *frothers" market, but GW have recognised that some veterans are willing to spend silly money on stuff...

However I do think the mail-order only bias towards veteran  gamers is mistaken (on my part), but I suspect that GW believe it is easier for the older credit-card owning gamer to pay by mail-order whereas for the younger pocket money gamer buying in store is easier.

Whenever I am in a GW store, I am likely to spend no more than ?5, whereas the frothers seem intent on spending ?30-40...

The US has that, too.

I don't know about others, but I actually prefer buying my minis from a retailer rather than mail order. It gives me a chance to get a good look at a mini before buying it and I don't have to pay for shipping!  :D  Plus, it's kind of hard to do impulse shopping online!  :p

Hi!

I agree on the impulse buying at stores, I have done that one too many times, but I have also done that online..... :;):

Ok, point well taken. :p

I have some good news for those who live near me. I have an inside source that just told me that the GW store in Connecticut will be carrying epic minis (and other SG games) starting in September (or so)!

So do I. But unfortunately I don't have any choice if I want other than WH or WH40k minis.  :(

I seem to recall that the text of that GW Newsletter was reproduced here a couple of years ago?  I may be getting confused but I have definelt yseen it and it was most saddening...

Then this week I found this being advertised:
http://www.games-workshop.com.au/events ... efault.htm

And a glimmer of hope was rekindled.  Coupled with a new policy where we can get parts and SG stuff in Australia for the first time ever, this is a good thing indeed!

Sadly, I cant make the event, but its a good sign regardless.  Especially after I demanded my Games Day money back from last Year's Sydney event...

Tas, I agree, it is a glimmer of hope.
