Once again, I wish that the Archive had not been shut down. ?:L

Don't we all wish that? Not that I would buy a Primarchload if it were reopened, but it sure would make acquiring specific minis a whole lot easier.

I agree.  It's a complete shame about minis going OOP.  I understand that sometimes it has to happen (like when the mold/master gets damaged), but still...

I'm not afraid to admit that I collect armies based around a concept:  In 40k (L4 adds another name) I was building the 5th Tactical Company of the Dark Angels, plus some support.  That's still going to happen, I just need to get going on the True-scale conversions :P .  I also really don't like the look of the Predator tank, but that's a different discussion.

I first started collecting the SM Scouts when Storm of Vengeance came out, with the intention of building an entire Scout army (10th company), and currently have almost 50.

Ravenwing is waiting for the right bike design (the master is on the workbench, to be resin cast when it's finished), and Deathwing Termies are waiting for time&money for conversion to Pre-Heresy Truescale or using the FW shoulder pads (still Truescale), haven't decided yet.

My Tau are based around Crisis suits (Starship Troopers), with just enough Fire Warrior squads to hold my baseline.

The Bugs are still WIP.

I'm building a Very Mechanized force of Dark Angels in Epic, but my 40k tends to be very infantry-based.  I also think that maybe even transport vehicles shouldn't be in 40k, and MBTs definitely shouldn't be in a skirmish game.

Intersting force projects you have there LitS.

A hearty welcome to another kindred spirit who denegrates the foolish packing in of massed armour in an infantry skirmish game! :D

L4, you'll be happy to note that my Dark Angels (and Tau) are in tactical colors.  Dark Angels are Euro 1, with some extra DA Green swathes for grins, with 'subdued' markings in 40k.  In epic, I'm probably going to go for the 'bright' markings (don't feel like hand-painting a Chapter's worth of insignia, so I'm going to be lazy and use the GW decals).

My Tau firewarriors are painted in 'chocolate chip' camo, and the armor is in a modified WW2 german scheme (tan and sand hull, with goblin green lines over the top).

The terms "wargamer" and "disciplined buying" rarely go togther! :p

*sigh* it is indeed a burden many of us bear... ?:{ :;):

(says he who has nearly 3,000 points of 40k Space Marines, 4 Epic armies, and WFB Chaos to fifnish and paint... if only I could paint them as quickly as I buy them and putthem together... ?:D )

Ha!

I've got to the stage that I've got armies I haven't even stuck together...

Yeah, I know that's terrible. The words 'lead weight discount' and 'disciplined buying' do NOT go together.

As for the original question, my armies grow for a whole bunch of reasons.

My 40K space marines grew up from a single predator that I painted for games day (many, many years ago).

My Emperor's Children were semi-planned - decided I wanted lots of sonic weapons and daemonettes, but otherwise very much what I felt like until I'd become used enough to create a tournament-type list.

My LATD started out so that I'd make ONE army that actually looked as nice as I could make it.

My Slaanesh fantasy army is very tightly themed as an all-female chaos horde.

My Necromunda gang is spyrers because a) I like the background and b) I don't want lots of models to paint!

For Epic titans will always be it for me - indeed the AMTL list was what tempted me back to Epic - but I'm working on at least one of each unit for my Inquisition list.

I have to say I haven't played 40K since I rediscovered Epic, but I know I'll come back to it. There are plenty of things I don't like about 40K, and there are loads of other games - GW games let alone elsewhere - that are perhaps better, more tactical games, but at the end of the day I come back to 40K as it is easy, fast and fun. :p

Lord Inquisitor.
