Rule #8: If I catch anyone not drinking...
Sorry, couldn't resist adding that Python classic. But seriously, I think so far this forum has done a good job of monitoring itself. It seems that new members, including me, are aware of the general tone and laid back quality.

Quote (nealhunt @ 05 2005 July,14:47) | Perhaps having to acknowledge "Da Rulez" as part of registration would be a good idea also. | That's not a bad idea.

Hi Guys,
I like the idea of a code of conduct, but if it gets to complicated then I will want to step down as moderator. Being moderator here has been an extra responsibility, but not a burden because I love the community here.
If we import too much trouble or make a charter that is something like a lawyer would write then I'd rather step down before my fun here and the responsibility and time I invest here in my hobby and friends becomes work and worry.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

I think that we should all just step back and relax a little. I understand that people here are worried about the direction and effect of a new influx of posters. I am sure that there will be no real changes in the future of these boards, aside from new blood and discussion and a lot more crazy ideas about the games that we play.
If anyone has any trouble at all, then please drop me a PM to let me know. This community has been a great place to be so far, very relaxed and friendly, and that is something that I would want to preserve primarily.
A code of conduct is a good idea (and I am remaining stepped back from the development for a reason), but its existance doesnt automatically mean that it will be broken more often.
This place should be fun. It should be a place to hang out to relax when you want to wind down. I dont expect that moderators to have much more work than they did a month ago, and the army champions are free to run their boards as they wish, impossing almost any restrictions on these boards that they feel are necessary.
Personally, I am considering the option of making thearmy champions boards moderated - so posts do not appear until they are approved - as an initial measure to see how things develop. I will consider it more.
Thanks.

I withdraw my question and ideas for now. I never intended them to be a call for some forum of major changes or restrictions. I also did not think the suggestion that we put down rules and thoughts we already follow would be so onerous as to cause moderators to quit.
In the last few days I have seen a few threads go personal already and expect it will happen more. We already live by some rules here. Many are unwritten and unspoken. It is not like I expected things to change. Just be easier for new members to come up to speed.
I just wanted to help. I am sorry for the problems this has caused.

Hi Daniel and Gang,
There's no need to withdraw your idea because it's a good one and a needed one.
You have helped and you're not the cause of the problems or even a contributing factor.
Please don't take responsiblity for the actions of others. You're not responsible for them.
I'm not quitting, but I am stating reasons why I would resign if things came to that. That's honest communication and I think that sort of thing needs to be said so that something can be done to address our shared issues.
I have every faith in CyberShadow and I think that this will blow over.
Part of my frustration comes from Specialist Games doing what they did, which makes no sense to me.
*** Why make a completely new forum that is less capable than the previous one when all that is really needed is to remove a few negative personalities and replace them with "can-do" positive ones? ***
This is frustrating for me. Administration and company politics are taking apart my game. I wish that someone would step up and make some good decisions rather than make every decision wait on a "go-nowhere" committee.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Either I missed something or I'm just a lot more thick-skinned than most. I haven't seen anything that I felt was personal on here any time recently.
I know some of my posts were deleted, so if I have offended it was unintentional and you have my apology. Certainly none of it was meant as anything personal.
If someone thinks I've posted something inappropriate PM or email works fine. Just let me know.

dafrca - Can I state for the record that the idea is not only a good one, but required. In fact, there are two sets of terms that obviously everyone has read, when you register. They are:
This board exists to promote a community of gamers. Please respect their views and opinions, and keep your posts polite and respectful, no matter how wrong the other person is. In addition, please do not directly quote or publish material which may be copyrighted by Games Workshop or any other company or individual, without their written permission (which should also be emailed to me).
Thank you. |
And:
Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this BB. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.
You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law. You agree not to post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this BB. |
We had one thread where a few posts registered on the radar of a few people (and all members involved had been registered for a lot longer than this week, if that makes a difference).
I have not taken anything personally, and dont feel in any way upset or that things round here will at all change. So, please feel free to continue with this development. When it is done, it will represent a set of guidelines. Not rules for posters or mods, but a starting point for posting here. They are also more descriptive of what already happens, than changes that people should abide by.
It is a time of change for SG, but most of us have been through this before, and lasted pretty well (some of us have even benefitted, primarch?).
