I think it covers off on your 'wants' - not really 'tournament winning' though. I'd post some pictures of my Void Spinners and Storm Serpents built off E40K era Cobra hulls, but they're not handy. I built them way, way, way back when the list was being developed. But basically (as previously suggested), I put a Falcon turret on a Cobra hull, and managed to mount three web Spinner 'armaments' on a Web Spinner turret on a Cobra hull. I then scratch built new 'Firestorm' turrets for the Falcons and Web Spinners I used to create the EoVs. I never replaced my EoVs...I've only got 16 of the E40K versions ;D

It does cost you a couple of activations, but replacing the two Scorpions and the Storm Serpent with a single formation including two Cobras and a Storm Serpent is pretty neat to. Both the Cobras and the Storm Serpent want to be well forward, and it makes for a 'fairly' decent BTS...with AA....not your SC....and templates...and a solid gate that is difficult to break/destroy!

Regards

Harry

Thanks Harry.

That gives me the bulk of the units I want to paint up to get started with Eldar.
The one exception is that I currentlydon t have any Shining Spears.
So what I can do to get started is take Swooping Hawks and move Autarch to the Warp Spider unit.

Thanks for all the advice

James

. . . Or you can proxy the shining spears using jetbikes if you have them.

Nothing wrong with Swooping Hawks in that list either. If fact they'll give you a Scout unit the list currently lacks. They may not be able to garrison, but they can teleport in first turn if you need a screen, or save them to set up crossfires or in preparation to support an assault out of the Storm Serpent.

They're still speed 35cm so they are good late game objective grabbers and moving to support other units in FF/CC. They may not have the armour and CC capabilities of Shining Spears, but Scout and Teleport are great. You would have to get much more mileage out of those two Guardian formation...

As to a lack of Shining Spears, I have a formation that dates back to before any sculpt was available. Stick some 'lances' on Guardian Jetbikes, paint blue and white and bingo - Shining Spears!

Thanks both. I'll ask other club members if they mind my proxying to start with. I guess if the only jetbike models on the table are being used to count as Shining Spears then there should be no confusion. However if they object I can always sub in the Swooping Hawks and just use them a little bit more cautiously due to lower armour save.

As I have nt played EA for a couple of years now I mat get 1-2 games in first with my IG or Orks to remind me of the rules etc and then give Biel-Tan a try. Thanks for all the advice. It has helped to give me an initial ideas to start using the Eldar, which should help motivate me to paint them, which should encourage me to get games with them.....

:)

Cheers

James
