Hi Guys

Thought I'd share the army lists that are attending Castle Assault 2015 in two weeks.
This year is the second time Newcastle has run Castle Assault for epic, almost doubling it's attendance numbers from the previous year.
The comp also allows experimental and developmental lists, and this year will even have a "composition score" to balance lists out. (Let's face it, not all "Approved lists" are equal, not by a long shot)

wow its going to be quite the battle, my bet is that the knight world and Eldar titan lists are going to give you the most trouble. Particularly the elder titan list, that is A LOT of Reverants!!! Necrons can be a pain in the #@$ too but it depends on how much experience you have had facing them. I'd be very interested to see the results of this one. The steel Legion has a ton of super heavies that will be tough too.

Yeah I can see that being a concern as the Fir Iolarion Eldar Titan Clan List 2.2 hasn't been updated since 2011. Not sure that its gotten the most attention it seems quite experimental still. Am surprised it was approved for the tournament. Should be interesting none the less!

I'm guessing they are allowing lists only published in the compendium (experimental, developmental, approved) you couldn't just generate an experimental list and use that.

Thanks for the thread, Mard! I love your work!

With this years Castle Assault I wanted to try something a bit different to open up the range of lists available to play. For this tournament a comp system would I introduced and trial a composition system to help balance OP lists or give a hand to those guys who always manage fluffier lists over competitive.

This is the spiel I put in the local forum about it for players.

The comp system is something we have discussed in length here in Newcastle. What we found that despite the approval rating system with you still see some list that are much more competitive and harder to deal with than some armies. There are formations in the game that are naturally better than others while being worth similar points, space marine predator annihilators vs space marine predator destructors would be one example.

The other reason for the comp score is that we wanted to allow a bigger range of lists to play in the event. So this means "some" experimental and most developmental will be allowed. Note if you wanted to run an experimental list please ask me first if it is not already listed.
Some experimental list like squat may attract a lower comp score as the list is considered to be a little over powered in certain areas.

Some examples of list from Cancon 2015 and scores comp scores they may have attracted at Castle Assault.

Here is my list from Cancon, it was a pretty powerful list and may have attracted a comp score of about 3-4.
Since this time the the rules for phantoms, void spinners and scorpions have been adjusted making them less powerful.
This list at the time had approval status.

Another list from Cancon was the Death Korps of Krieg. This list was very powerful and really had very little in the way of weakness's. It sported 11 DC 3 warengines, 60 plus infantry stands an more toys than you could poke a stick at. This is the most competitive list I have seen (without spamming) and would attract a comp score of about 2. Again the DKOK are a list with the approved status however I know Matt Shadowlord has headed up the Sub-AC position and is setting about the task to tone back certain elements in the list.

The final example I used from Cancon was a space marine list that I felt would score around a 8-9 for comp. This list didn't have any terminators, thunderhawks or even a supreme commander which are consistent to more competitive lists.
It's also took a mix of upgrades including softer choices such as librarians and vindicators when arguably harder choices are available.

Look at the end of the day the introduction of a composition score for epic is new and there will be people that agree and disagree with what is a hard and soft list. So that's why a panel (non playing) will individually score and a average will be supplied. Hopefully this system will help level the playing field a whilst allowing players to also run list that haven't been developed through to approval.

I applaud the addition of another vector in scoring for the tournament. Ideas like this are fantastic.

24 is a great turnout for a 'dead' game , I think EUK have only beaten that once with 26 for FSA 2012

The Australian scene is only getting bigger and bigger every year, with Sydney looking at hosting a tourney to add another comp on the east coast and to grow the player base even more.
