I got 2 friends who is willing to learn the game, but I need to create 2 armys for them.

The requirements so far is that one of them should be mostly tanks and the other one 50/50 infantry/tanks this is their requests

I got a rather large collection of Space Marine minis so I can create most lists, my main problem is that I don't play Space Marines, I play Tau and I have no idea what to take in a list.

Please help!

For all tanks, take one of each (LR, PredA, PredD, V, W). Adding some Land Speeders would be good for scout screens and support. A Landing Craft wouldn't be a bad thing either (I've air-assaulted with a PredD with 2 Vs and a Librarian before, it's a lot of FF). After that TBolts, ground-pounding Marines need a high activation count (12+) to effectively stall.

For the 50/50, I usually base my armies on a battle company (2 Tacs, 1 Dev and 1 Assault or 2 Speeders/Bikes). I'd start there, then add tanks and TBolts.

Are you going to be teaching them to play SM v SM, or SM v your Tau?

If this is their first game, I would take out the aircraft element until they are happy with the rules.

Was planning on SM Vs. SM first, then introduce them to Tau after the basics are down.

Gonna start with 1k vs. 1k I think and then expand with more points and rules.

More suggestions and lists are always welcome, have started de-painting (stripping) the minis, so still got time to deceide what to include in the armys.

for smaller battles, the Minigeddon rules are great

If you get to 3K make sure the 50/50 guy has Termies. Great for taking out armour. He will also need Dev's.

I am also a big fan of Vindicators if your going against infantry although they seem to get mixed reviews on here.
