Back in the day, when the moon of Epic 40K was waning, I bought a bunch of stuff in the grand sell off that GW stores were having at the time. Aside from some Eldar stuff (my main army), I apparently picked up some IG things. These are:

6 manticores
6 baneblades
9 hellhounds
3 demolishers
3 hydras
2 thunderbolts
2 marauder bombers
1 warlord titan
2 warhound titans

Having recently found them, I've been wondering if this could form an unusual (and sub-optimal) but sizeable army. Since I have no knowledge of the Steel Legion list, I thought I'd see what suggestions others can make. I must admit to chuckling at the mental image of an entirely shooty army with two pimped baneblade companies, but I'd concede that it'd probably be necessary to add some form of infantry or scouts as speed bumps

Take a look at the Minervan tank legion list, you can certainly make a list out of that no problem. You may (but don't have to) pick up some infantry or Leman Russ'. Off the top of my head you could have:

Super Heavy Tank Co (3 Shadowswords), Hyrda - 550
Super Heavy Tank Co (3 Shadowswords), Hydra - 550
Leman Russ Co (3 Demolishers, 7 Regular), Supreme Commander -725
Self-Propelled Artillery (3 Manticores) - 250
Self-Propelled Artillery (3 Manticores) - 250
Thunderbolts - 150
Warhounds - 500

That's 2975 points and you'd have to pick up 6 Russ'. It is by no means optimized but it should work until you hammer out what you really want. If you are playing guard you will most likely want a Russ company anyway so there's no harm in picking them up.

He's got Baneblades, not Shadowswords. But yes, there's enough there for more than 3k of minervans. And double check the Minervan BB stats. They're worth their points, unlike the Steel Legion Baneblades. More (and twin) Heavy Bolters, and a better (75cm 3+AP/3+AT vs. 75cm 4+AP/4+AT) main cannon. Plus Comissars that add FF attacks!

btw.. Spectre, i love your Cadian list that seems like you got some ideas from E&C. I'm now trying to form my armies into that lovely list.

Yeah, it's really an evolution of E&C's list, which is in turn an evolution of Chroma's. Let me know how it works for you!

So far so good.. i'm trying to collect another 3 hellhounds and another three griffons to get those support units. Finally got some otterware trenches. and i have 44 infantry... just need some psyker proxies.. weird ork boyz maybe?

There are psykers in the IG Character Pack. Can't remember how many; probably isn't practical. You may want to look into the fine Canadian Army floating around...

Ya.. 20 dollars for a pack of characters when i need three in total.... (tech priest and psykers) not my idea of a worth while purchase. I have plenty of leman russ (30 in total not counting demo's and conquerors). And lots of artillery.

I'd look at the Canadians, then. Those Canuks have five psykers per set.
