Speed Freeks

Basically no. Your Light vehicles can be targetted by both AP & AT shots, the AP shots ignore the Speedsta and do not affect powerfields. AT shots will take out powerfields, but will be allocated to any light vehicles 'in front' of the speedsta before a powerfield can be removed.

My opponent will be playing SM on saturday - I imagine the best formations to use against Speed Freeks are Whirlwinds and well dug-in Tactical/Assault with Vindicator support?

& Thunderhawks straffing your formations 5 shots on 4+

My opponent regularly takes Marauders as air support so no doubt their bombs will knock out quite a few LVs!!  :oh:

I'm thinking it might be an idea to convert up some Flakwagons, I've got tonnes of SM-era plastic Battlewagons to chop up!  :vD

Righty ho, this is my army list for saturday's battle. Going to be playing 2500pts as this is what I can scrape together from my sweep of eBay!  :cool:

Big Warband with Mekboy Bad Ork Bike Boy
(x4 Skorcha & x4 Warbike)
+2 Flak

Big Warband
(x4 Skorcha & x4 Warbike)
+2 Flak

Big Kult of Speed
(misc units of Skorcha, Warbikes and Warbuggys)
+2 Mekboy Speedsta

Big Kult of Speed
(misc units of Skorcha, Warbikes and Warbuggys)
+2 Mekboy Speedsta

'Uge Blitz Brigade
+3 Mekboy Speedsta
+1 Flak

Fighta Bommerz


Right my basic plan will be to harry the enemy's flanks with the two KoS formations, attempting to get in behind the enemy army so as to provide crossfire and assault support. The two Warbands will be for taking objectives and assaulting. The Blitz Brigade I will use to take on armoured formations and War Engines. The Fighta Bomberz will be used to strafe artillery and weak formations. I'm hoping that the Mekboy Speedstas will be able to take care of anything too stubborn.

My main worry with this list is the lack of activations. I've kept my formations large so as to soak up a lot of punishment without breaking - but I think I might regret the lack of smaller, more maneuverable formations when coming up against my Space Marine opponent.

That looks to be a good solid force to start with. I wouldn't worry to start off with about your number of activations as you are playing 500pts less than a standard tournament army. (You could get a normal KoS and two more formations of F-Bs to knock you up to 3k.)

As you have effectively have two wings to your army I would use them as such with a Warband and KoS mutually supporting each other as you bear down on your opponent. The uge BB can then push up the middle of reinforce one of your flanks.

Its been along time since I last played with 7 Speedstas so I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on them.

It turned out that the massive formations with little activations was a two-edged sword - on one hand the size of the formations meant they could soak up a lot of damage, put down a lot of firepower and were evil in assaults. On the other, they could only shoot at one enemy formation at a time.

The Mekboy Speedsta worked wonderfully! Their powerfields certainly saved a lot of BMs being laid early on in the game. Plus their MW shots proved really useful in reducing the Land Raiders.

Brilliant, I've read the report and you hit up against a nasty army. I'm also glad that you were able to get the best out of the Speedstas too.

The Ultramarine army was quite nasty - I think the points adjustment made for a fairer game though.
