Im playing around with an Ork list which is limited somewhat by my smallish collection, the lack of Nobz, means im limited in the amount of actual warbands I can field.

One option for my army though is a warband that consists of about 55 units (roughly speaking 20boyz, 3 big gunz, 4 nobz, 12 grotz, all in battlewagons/fortress) and im just wondering if this size warband would be impractical or not, any thoughts?

I'd say anything over 40 units is pretty much un-workable.

I sometimes like to do one big size warbands (so 20 units) perhaps with 2 x big gunz and oddboyz, but that's how far I go. Otherwise I get to few activations.

How susceptible is your massif warband to clipping? If you can move it and keep a reasonable shape on the ground, SPAWN MOAR OVERLORDS I SAY!

That said, ugest warband I have run was 36 stands, coz that shit takes took long to move each turn..

Examples of some of my Ork Warbands using the original SM1 Templates ... which we find better than any other system the Cretins at GW have come up with since ... in our opinions .... >:D

Big Warbands are mostly the best of the three options. Adding Boyz and Grot upgrades instead or as well is quite viable though, with Orks not caring if they die in assaults the Grots are more important to have than than Nobz in game terms.

Considering buying a set of Troublemaker games Skinerz leaders? Painted up as Orks they'd look great.

I seem to recollect a certain speed freak army that had two 'Uge warbands of over 50 units that walked all over the tournaments opponents some years ago; but that was obviously in a different reality ;)

Thanks for the replies, and despite the sage advice, I may give this warband a try out, apart from the size making it awkward to move/deploy, the sheer size and potential firepower is tempting me to give it a go, besides I doubt the formation will be 50+ units strong after a turn or two, and I really want to see the consternation on my opponents face when he sees a huge ork mechanised warband racing across the board :-)

Keep them all in battlefortresses until the last minute to speed moving them about :)
