So I submitted a wishlist of miniatures to my wife yesterday for Christmas, and apparently she ordered every one.  They're all Pax Arcadians.  I know, they're Seeds of War minis, but I'm posting in the FWC forum becuase that's the ruleset I'm going to use them with.  This initial force will be mostly infantry with a dropship, 1 blister of each of the buggies, and a small handful of tanks (1 blister of Chasseurs and 1 blister of Tigers).

So, obviously I won't be able to start working on them right away as I won't be receiving them until Christmas and I'll be out of state then, but I can start planning.  A few things I'm debating though:

1. Base size: in FWC base size doesn't matter.  I'm struggling between 20mm squares or 10mm x 40mm rectangles.  The handful of Andy's I have are on poker chips which have roughly the same area, but I'm thinking that won't look as good for the humans for some reason.

2. Figures per base: I know the usual standard is 5 per base.  But I'm thinking I can stretch things out a bit if I go 4 per.  Though then I run into problems with the number of sergeants.  However, the Reg Command blister has more command groups than I'll probably need, so I could conceivably raid that for more sergeants.  I'm going to have to run the numbers and see what I can come up with. May have to order another command blister though that would seem to defeat the purpose of putting fewer figures per base.

3. Basing vehicles: to base or not to base?  I prefer to not base vehicles, however, 6mm vehicles are much smaller than the N-scale ones I'm used to and I'll be the first to admit that I'm clumsy.  If I do decide to base the vehicles, what size would work best?

4. Color: Ahh, the bane of miniature painters, color selection.  I want to something suitably tactical, but not desert, urban, or woodland.  I have too many other forces in those schemes.  Hmmm, tundra maybe?  Suggestions welcome!

1) FoW small bases (25x32).
2) It's right that there's a lot of various command type models in the command pack. Perhaps even so that it's better to add a "light infantry" to it and use those models as HQ's.
3) Same bases. Somehow it feel more secure.
4) Toxic wasteland...? With stagnant water and ruins abundant.

Good luck!  :D

OK, so I've done the math and with what I expect to receive the breakdown would be:

36 stands @ 5/base
1 CO (Commander, 2nd IC, RTO, Medic, Engineer)
7 HQ (2nd IC, SGT, RTO, 2 Lt Inf) {some of these would be designated as FAOs/FACs)
8 Lt Inf (1 SGT, 4 Lt Inf)
4 AT Inf (1 SGT, 2 Lt Inf, 2 AT Inf)
4 HMG Inf (1 SGT, Lt Inf, 2 HMG Inf)
8 Sniper Teams (2/base)
4 Scouts (5 Scout Inf)

43 stands @ 4/base
1 CO (Commander, SGT {we'll call him the Command Sergeant Major}, RTO, Medic, Engineer)
7 HQ (2nd IC, RTO, 2 Lt Inf)
1 HQ (2nd IC, SGT, Lt Inf) {would use this as a low CV HQ or FA0/FAC}
13 Lt Inf (SGT, 3 Lt Inf)
4 AT Inf (SGT, 1 Lt Inf, 2 AT Inf)
4 HMG Inf (SGT, 1 Lt Inf, 2 HMG Inf)
5 Scouts (4 Scout Inf)
8 Sniper Teams (2/base)

Now, the question is, is it worth the bother?

Of course it's worth the bother, but what I meant was worth the bother to split them 4/base.  More I think about it I don't think I'd really get that much more for the money since I end up spending more for bases (going with Litko for bases along with some custom tokens). Still deliberating with myself on base sizes and colors.

Five per base also is easier to look good.
2 & 3, circle, 1 & 4 etc.

I'd go with 20x40 for infantry and vehicles, 2 size of squares of HQ and CO (CO's being bigger) and 2 coins/washer for fao and fac. In 10mm 4 to a base for infantry is fine but it may look a bit sparse in 6mm. Guess you won't really know until you get them and try a few.

I'm liking 3 per base for 1" round bases. I find the 10x40 and 20x20 gw bases just don't give enough real estate to flock the base nicely... and, frankly, with 6mm figures, it's the flocking that's almost as important as the figures themselves.

As far as bases go, I've decided on 20x30 as a standard size for all infantry, but altering the shape to designate unit type.  So the standard infantry will be a 20x30 rectangle, support units will have rounded edges, command units will be on either pill or oval shaped bases.  Buggies will be on rectangle bases, but I'm going to order some markers to place on the base when I'm using them as recce instead of support.  I'll probably use a straight cut on the scout infantry.  Snipers will be on round bases.  Likto is going to get a decent order from me in December, maybe even January.

Question, will most of the vehicles fit on a 20x30 base or will I need to order something larger?

For the coloring, I'm leaning on towards a savannah scheme.

On another point, I've made a deal that will keep the Empire...umm...yeah, anyway, I've made a deal and will be receiving several stands of Space Marines and a handful of Land Raiders to be the OPFOR to the Pac.  Then I think I'll be ordering up some Skyth next year.

This looks like it could provide some interesting painting and basing possiblities.  That and it gives me an excuse to buy different shades of flocking.

That could look really good.  It's definitely different, which is good for basing ideas.

I was going to suggest either Northern Russian (gray/green mix) or southern russian (Tan/green mix) for colors.  I hope you weren't planning on camo'ing 6mm infantry, I'd go blind from that!
