This page is for organizing teams, confirming bookings, and all other logistics.
Can you keep posting to a minimum please - preferably use the other page for inquiries/ general discussion?
Hopefully, this will allow this post to keep everyone clearly informed.

The tournament will be in Glasgow. 21st and 22nd September.
Location is The Glasgow University Union. 32 University Avenue.
The tournament will be 3k, played as teams, with 5 games each.
Net Ea approved lists. Where there is no Net-Ea list, Epic-Uk may be used.
Three games played on the 21st and two games played on the 22nd.

The rules and lists are available at
http://tp.net-armageddon.org/tournament-pack/
http://epic-uk.co.uk/rules/EpicUKRulesPackvs2.pdf
http://epic-uk.co.uk/wp/rules/

Each team shall appoint a captain. - the captain can then message me confirming attendance of the team.
Where a team has less than four players, the captain should message me advising of this and that the team is looking for an extra player.
Where a player wishes to attend but has no team, they should also message me so that I can try to fit them into a team.
This may become logistically challenging, so please contact me as soon as possible.

Each team of four will be allowed ONE of each faction. E.g one Imperial Guard army from the NET EA list.
The Captain shall message me confirming the lists for their team by 1 August 2019.

Payments
The event shall be £20 per person.
Each confirmed player should pay by PayPal to:
dw@glasgowletsltd.com
Remembering to confirm their name and team.

If you are unsure about your army, please message me with the details.

As detailed above, Net EA approved lists - if no Net EA approved list for that army, then Epic UK will be permissible.

Reposting nearby accommodation from other thread:

- The venue is in the West End/Glasgow University district
- There is only one tube line in Glasgow so you can get to the venue from anywhere on the tube. The tube is good and runs until around 11pm/midnight
- Busses in Glasgow are terrible
- Taxis in Glasgow are cheap and reliable. Most journeys cost £10-15. Airport to city centre £20-30

Accommodation

- Park Circus Hostel (think it’s YHA)
- A range of smaller hotels on Great Western Rd (Byres Rd End)
- There’s also the Grosvenor hotel which is pretty swanky
- Air bnb in the Byres Rd, woodlands, or Glasgow University area is also a good shout.
- There’s a range of premier inn, travelodge, budget hotels in the city centre which is only a couple of tube stops/half hour walk to the venue as well.

I have looked at creating an organization system which ensures teams play against new opponents AND the best team wins the tournament.

UPDATED
With 8 teams now confirmed, we will be running two groups of four teams.
Each team will play each other in the group.
At the end of the group stage, the teams will enter a playoff.
The top two teams of each group going into a playoff for the Championship, the bottom two for the Bowl.
The top team in the first group shall play the second team in the second group. etc.

Scoring
This was always going to be a challenge. The Swiss version is very popular and I appreciate that nobody wishes a winning draw to count for little. However, I am confident that wins will be what defines the tournament.
For that reason, we are going to play in a similar style to the Ryder cup.
A win will give your team a point.
A draw will give your team a 1/2 point.
A defeat results in no points.
Teams will also record goals achieved, in case of a tie break.

E.g
Scotland play England
S 2-0 E turn three
S 1-1 E turn four draw
S 0-1 E turn four draw
S 3-0 E turn four

Would result in Scotland 3 v 1 England, with a 5-3 goal difference.

This method has a few aims, 1. Quick scoring, 2. Team play (everyone knows how their team is doing and what they need to achieve in their game. 3. It still rewards scoring goals even in draws. 4. It makes it less important to beat newer players 5-0.

That all makes sense.

Apart from the idea that Scotland would beat England, which is obviously ridiculous.

My only concern on this is the relative power of teams within groups. Being trapped in a group for first 4 games could mean a weak team is stuck with only strong teams to play (relative to full event), rather than naturally ending up playing teams of equal relative strength. For example, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 9th seeds (as it were) could end up in Group 1, which sucks for seed 9.

Likewise when you say no country twice per group, does that mean you would be happy with:
England 1, Scotland, Wales, Barbarians (3 UK players), +a fifth all being in the same group? if the point is people get to face new teams, that does not help.

(Bit of an extreme example.)

By splitting the UK teams = no problem.

I'm more concerned about enabling different countries to get a chance to play each other - especially the USA team and Aussie who can't meet up with everyone each year like the European teams can.

It should be recognised that there is no perfect system for this - there are different strengths and weaknesses of all systems.

Is the hall available for gaming on the Friday Dan? For practice games and countries not drawn against each other to get a friendly game in?

Sadly the hall is not available.
We have chosen a great venue (I hope you agree), but its not cheap, there are staff constantly working.
This though does mean that the bar is open and we do not need to worry much about setting up.

At current lists we look like having two English and two German teams.
I know the English (cough!) teams were always very good, but as they have lost players to Wales and Scotland it should be a more balanced field. It was difficult to ensure that teams didn't run into the players they normally played against, and this may mean that some teams face difficult opponents, however, I hope to mitigate this in how we decide the 1v1 draw for opponents.

I appreciate those concerns, and fair point on the 1v1s. But groups seem to actively limit the mobility of teams to face teams of similar power at an event with probably a lot of asymmetry between team ability.
Im also pretty sure that 2nd german team is Largo (chris), me, and 2 scots. I've no objection to it being a german team, but given that make up it will make zero difference on opponent spreading. So just splitting England 1 from England 2, while helpful, is not a big change. (I agree with all your motives, just not 100% on how the group solution helps.)

Or will the group selections be adjusted by hand with an awareness of approximate power and origin?

Why not simply take tge EpicUK scoring system, swiss for teams (best Team vs seconde best...), swiss in team vs team (eg. Best player team a faces best player team b...) and be done? "Best" beeing defined by most tourney pts and most goals achieved

Can someone clarify what a win and a loss is please? Does a VP win count as a win and conversely a VP loss count as a loss or are they all in the 'draw' bracket (winning draw/losing draw etc)?

As above,
A win is any win within the tournament rules. A win will be worth 1 point to the team.
The team will also have a separate tally of goals (think of this as 'Goals Scorded' in football tables). This will only come into play where two teams are equal on points.

A draw is worth 1/2 point. This includes a winning, losing or straight draw.
Once again, the draw (and indeed defeats) allow 'Goals scored.'

So in a 1:0 tiebreaker situation counting points it can morph to be a 1:0 or 1:1 or 2:0 but never a 0:2 outcome, correct?
