This should create lively but healthy debate!

Which version of each race's list is better for tournaments - Epic UK or NetEA?

I will start off with some of my views:

Space Marines - NetEA better
Slaanesh - NetEA better
Speed Freaks - Epic UK better
Krieg - Epic UK better

What about other lists?

think it might be helpful to indicate why as well. I for one don't know anything about the EUK DKoK list for example and would find it educational to have someone that knows point out functional differences

Also define better.

Are we talking more powerful or more balanced for a tournament? Something else?

I'll add info on why later - fair point.

Better is a combination of things including being more balanced, more viable options, and more fun to play with/against.

For example, Net EA Space Marines have better points values for certain tanks, and makes you think before taking 2 units of Thunderbolts.

Epic UK Krieg stop Warhounds dominating.

To quote TS Eliot, ‘not better, not worse, just different’.

Soooooooo politically correct.

To be honest looking through the two sets of lists they are very similar, so in many cases the differences are relatively minor.

I do think that this makes for an interesting debate though. And people don't have to agree!

I prefer EpicScotland.
Its like Epic UK but allows Thunderhawks a plenty.
... I may have recently invented this.

To be genuine (and piss people off) I find the Epic UK lists harder to break, which means that they are (possibly) more balanced, but adversely they allow you less freedom to choose units.

To recap, - they are both dreadful, and I will have anyone that disagrees!

Haha - that's more the provocative spirit!

Yeah NetEA has more options to break Epic, but also has more ways of playing some lists whilst staying competitive.

P.S. just remembered I've just bought 4 undercosted Thunderbolts and Epic UK might amend them to 175 now just to wind me up (which I probably deserve)!

Actually, whilst not dreadful, there are some areas where I think both are not as good as they could be.

But, also, they are both way better than lists by most games developers, so both are top tier at list making.

Well, for the award of most divergent i'd have to go with the Nid lists - they both take an element of the theme of the race, but run with it in very different directions. Both have issues though, the E-UK one heavily favours just spamming infantry swarms, and most of the rest of the list is heavily sub-optimal (there are notable exceptions such as hives though). Net-EA on the other hand has some rather.... interesting approaches in terms of recycling troops and rallying. I'm still not convinced an army that auto rallies from broken is a particularly solid design plan, but there we go.

It's worth noting though that most lists that are in both sets are actually not that far from each other these days - at least the ones that actually make it to approved at least.

Fair point Richard - both sets of lists have work to do for Nids!!!!

I'm still hoping one day one of the groups will make the other Eldar variants competitive (Iyanden excepted).

I have Saim Hann and always thought that the main jetbike units were a bit pricey - I've felt that for the points there should either be an additional bike or a reduction in cost.

If the (unnecessary) fear is spamming jetbikes another option is to just make the Chieftain and also maybe the Farseer cheaper instead.

Titans, NetEA list is actually a list that can be somewhat competetive in a tournament while the EpicUK one seems very hard to use with the mandatory warlord.

Dark Eldar, the EpicUK list is one of my favourite lists to play while the current NetEA list is kinda odd.

You'd be surprised. The up-gunning of the Epic-UK titan list (pretty much a 50% increase on most guns) really helps in giving the titans the punch necessary to actually destroy rather than just break units. As a list it does tend to draw more than anything else, but It's won at least one tournament (which is more than can be said for the E-UK Skitarii or Knights as far as i'm aware), and has at least a couple of viable builds, so not the worst by any stretch.
